Penny Lancaster, 49, often appears on the Loose Women panel as she shares an insight into her family life with husband and rock legend Rod Stewart, 76, and their sons Alastair, 15, and Aiden, 10. On Thursday’s episode of ITV show, Penny spoke out on the first few months of parenthood and the struggles she faced when sleep training her sons.
Talking of her experience with her eldest son Alastair, Penny spoke out on the advice she was given from her paediatrician to help with his sleeping pattern.
She explained to her fellow panellists: “He gave me advice with the baby like ‘you’re just going to have to let him cry.
“‘Because he cries and he knows that you will appear, you will provide lovely warm sweet milk, so of course, he is going to cry out for that every single night.’
“‘So if you don’t run to him when he starts crying, he will be like, oh, it’s not going to happen anymore.’
In the lengthy post talking of the first few months after she welcomed Alastair, she went on to talk of the advice given to her when he was six months.
She wrote: “It was suggested that at around 5/6 months babies wake for milk as a habit.
“So over 2/3 nights I let him cry for 5 then 10 and 20mins intervals before going into him with water only and then he slept the whole night through!!!!”
While the approach worked for her, she later continued to highlight how it might not suit other mothers.

The mother of two continued: “There is no one-size-fits-all approach.
“You need to look at the individual child’s needs as well as the Mums and the family and get professional advice before making hard decisions that you are unsure about.
“CIO or as I like to call it, teaching self-soothing (at the right time) is truly a gift of nighttime sleep that will really help long term.(sic)”
Penny’s fans have since taken to the comments of the post in support of the Loose Women star.
One wrote: “Exact same with my youngest. Controlled crying worked, thank god!”
Another agreed: “I also used this approach, and I remember it was hard… but the payoff at the end was worth it for baby and mama!”
“Best thing I ever did. Took 3 nights then sorted. Xxx,(sic)” a third continued.
Loose Women airs weekdays on ITV from 12.30pm.
