S Club 7 release emotional statement thanking fans after tragic death of Paul Cattermole

S Club 7 have released an emotional statement just one day on since the tragic death of their bandmate Paul Cattermole was announced to the world.

The band took to social media on Saturday to share their gratitude with fans for the outpouring of love they had received in light of the harrowing news that had left the remaining six members of the band utterly “devastated” by his loss.

“Thank you to all of our incredible fans and friends who have shared their love for our brother Paul,” began the band.

“In this difficult time for all of us, it gives us strength to know that he will never be forgotten.”

They then continued: ‘In lieu of flowers, Paul’s family have requested that anyone who would like to can join us in making a donation in his honour to the National Youth Music Theatre, an organisation that brought Paul so much joy growing up.”

“We love you all. S Club x ”

Paul tragically passed away on Thursday, after being found dead at his home in Dorset, aged just 46 years old.

In a statement from Paul's family and S Club 7 to OK!, it said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole.

"Paul was found yesterday, 6th April 2023 at his home in Dorset and was pronounced dead later that afternoon.

"While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances. Paul’s family, friends and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time."

S Club 7 have also paid tribute to Paul, posting a black-and-white photo of the late star to the band's official Instagram.

They penned: "We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel.

"We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have.

"He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time."

Shortly after the news broke, fans and famous faces from all around the globe rushed to express their deepest condolences at the lost of a man that had so easily become a staple of so many childhoods throughout the 1990s.

Among the stars paying tribute was Hollyoaks actor Jeremy Edwards, who previously dated Paul’s bandmate Rachel. He wrote: “RIP Paul Cattermole. My thoughts and love go to all your friends and family.”

Scottish broadcaster Lorraine Kelly described Paul Cattermole as “gentle and shy” as she paid tribute to the singer following his death.

“This is so sad. Lovely man and he was so looking forward to the #sclub7 reunion,” she tweeted. “Interviewed them all many times and struck by how gentle and shy he was.”

Sheridan Smith also paid a poignant tribute to her dear friend Paul as she wrote: “Devastated beyond words. We all grew up together in the NYMT then all lived together for years.”

She then continued: “He was an amazing man and my heart breaks for his friends, family and loved ones. Thinking of Han & Neil and his band mates too. Too young. Feel sick.”

TV sensation Rylan Clark also expressed his condolences as he wrote: “@sclub7 sending all the love to you all xxx.”

Meanwhile Loose Women's India Willoughby shared her thoughts, writing: "Such sad news. Paul was always my favourite. Cheeky smile. Be with the brightest stars now.

"Love and condolences to all his family and friends."
