‘They were furious!’: Sam Smith ‘in chaotic backstage argument after their £500K BRITs set malfunctioned and performance almost cancelled – before making a quick exit’
Sam Smith was reportedly left furious after their BRIT Awards performance was almost cancelled due to technical difficulties on Saturday.
The singer, 30, – who is non-binary and uses gender neutral pronouns – was said to be arguing backstage after their £500K set malfunctioned causing a delay to the live show.
A source told The Sun as a result, stressed Sam – who finally performed their hit Unholy with Kim Petras – made a quick exit, avoiding any of the show’s afterparties.
‘[Their] performance might have appeared seamless but behind-the-scenes it was a nightmare’.
They went on to reveal fellow performer Stormzy’s set was moved up in order to try and fix the error with the possibility Sam’s performance being be scrapped.
Fuming: Sam Smith, 30, was reportedly left furious after their BRIT Awards performance was almost cancelled due to technical difficulties on Saturday
‘[They] were understandably furious and it was pretty tense backstage.’
It’s believed the technical issues arouse from the cars used on stage and bounced to the music during the incredible spectacle.
Another source added: ‘What should have been a huge night for Sam ended up being pretty stressful and they made a quick exit from the ceremony and didn’t bother going to celebrate at any of the label parties.’
MailOnline have contacted reps for Sam and The BRIT Awards for comment.
The performer was clad in a leather and PVC outfit as they entertained the audience with the wild antics.
The performance even saw two of their backing dancers snogging on stage at the end of the song.
It comes just a week after Grammy viewers slammed Sam and Kim over their ‘satanic’ performance of Unholy last Sunday night.
Sam was seen wearing satanic headgear in the horror movie-inspired performance, viewers flocked to social media to share their frustrations about the ‘demonic’ themes.
At the BRITs for their performance the stage transformed into a mechanic’s garage for a rendition of their song Unholy.

Kim put on a busty display in black bra underneath a boilersuit, while Sam wore a black buckled bodysuit as they danced around the stage with their backing dancers.
At the end of the song the cameras zoomed in on two of his backing dancers packing on the PDA in the raunchy performance.
There were groups of other backing dancers around them who all joined in with the very sexy dance moves.
The performance drew a mixed reaction from viewers, with some saying it was ‘iconic’ while others thought it was ‘OTT’.

‘How you go from those tributes to Sam Smith dressed as a devil?’, one viewer asked while another tweeted: ‘That devil worshipping performance was trash. And it’s been done so many times. I’m disappointed af.’
One frustrated music fan added: ‘I’m really so sick of the satanic and demonic references…even with the hypocrisy — I still wanna know WHY Nicki, Sam Smith, Lil Nas X, and so many others reference the devil.’
Another agreed as they stated: ‘So many devil horns tonight, first Sam SMITH, now Steve Lacy. Like why the satanic s**t?’

After the performance, host Trevor Noah immediately joked about the fact the satanic themes would outrage some viewers.
Pretending to be on the phone to his mother, he was heard saying: ‘ No, mom, it wasn’t the actual devil… Yeah, you did warn me about Hollywood’
As stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck laughed along, he ‘ended’ the call and stated: ‘She said she’s praying for all of us’.
