Former EastEnders actress Samantha Womack announced she had separated from husband Mark Womack with OK! in 2020.
And as she catches up with us to talk about her breast cancer diagnosis and shares the amazing news she's cancer-free, she also divulges on boyfriend Oliver Farnworth and explains he and ex Mark are "really good friends."
“They’ve got a passion for cars and camper vans, so often they’re texting each other," Sam says.
And her children Lily, 17, and Benjamin, 21, who she shares with Mark also have a great relationship with Oliver, Sam says.
“Lily loves cooking with Oli," Sam, 50, explains. "They have a real interest and passion in food. Oli and Ben are really good, chopping wood together and doing stuff outside. We’ve worked hard to make our family close.
“Mark and I are lucky in that respect, that we both reached the same place at the same time so that we were able to stay friendly and talk about each other’s future relationships or dating.
“I feel very proud of us. When we’re all together and laughing, I think, ‘We’ve managed a potentially really difficult situation well’.”
Samantha announced back in August that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, with an Instagram tribute to late acting legend Olivia Newton-John.
And in her exclusive interview with OK!, the actress, who is currently starring in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe on the West End, shares the news her lumpectomy was successful.
“I just feel really thankful and really grateful that I caught it when I did,” she says. “I feel very thankful for my life. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s almost like I can see the beauty in everything now – like everything feels special. I keep bursting into tears, because I’m happy.
“I think it [going through cancer] shifts your perspective and suddenly everything feels really important and really vital and you suddenly just appreciate everything.”
Sam also admits that in the wake of her diagnosis she'd like to help other sufferers going through treatment.
“I just desperately want to have some kind of wellness retreat,” she says.
“We’ve got apartments attached to our house, so I like the idea of something where you’re giving back to people who are recovering from treatment.
“Nature feels so important to be around when you’re having difficult diagnoses. If we can offer that to people and some kind of holistic retreat, that would feel really cool.”
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre until 8 January 2023. For tickets visit lionwitchonstage.com for details
