While she's been quiet about certain major news, Scarlett Johansson finally opened up about her secret wedding to Colin Jost. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she explained that it was a surreal occasion because of all the COVID-19 precautions that they had to take, down to testing and custom-made Jost 2020 face masks for guests.
The ceremony went down in Palisades, New York, back in October 2020. With most of the world still under lockdown, it wasn't tough to keep the wedding low-key, but Johansson told Meyers that it was still "a little stressful" for her and Jost.
"Obviously we wanted to take all the precautions that we could, so we had the masks … and everybody had to get [COVID] tests like 100,000 times," she said.
Johansson added that seeing it all now feels like looking into a very specific moment in time thanks to the masks and the pared-down guest list.
"I mean, it's just weird. Looking back at the photos," she said. "It definitely was a weird party favor that could only happen now, but you just gotta go with it."
Even with things being the way that they were, Johansson said that the ceremony was perfect, because she managed to get her and Jost's families together, including his elderly grandparents.
"Even though it was small and intimate, it was beautiful and we were so happy to see people that we hadn't seen in such a long time," Johansson told Meyers. "We just felt very fortunate to be able to get together like that. It felt like it was sort of how it was supposed to be … minus face masks."
Johansson shared that she and Jost were engaged back in July 2019, when she flashed her ring at a San Diego Comic-Con panel. Sources close to the couple told People that they never really wanted a big wedding and that "they only planned the wedding for a few weeks."
"They wanted a quiet, private ceremony with their close friends and family, and they pulled it off," a second source added.
