Shocked Harry says ‘shut up’ as Meghan reads out private text from Beyoncé

Prince Harry’s shocked reaction to his wife Meghan Markle receiving a text from legendary singer Beyoncé has been revealed in their explosive Netflix documentary.

Meghan can be seen receiving the message as Bey checked in to see if she was OK following her and Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

In the interview, the former actress discussed how much she had struggled with life in the spotlight of the royal family and how at her lowest moment she had suicidal thoughts.

In their Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan can be seen sitting down to watch the interview back from the comfort of their own home.

Meghan also FaceTimed her mother Doria Ragland before noticing the text from Beyoncé, who the couple met along with her husband Jay-Z at the premiere of The Lion King in London in 2019.

“Beyoncé just text,” Meghan said, as Harry looked down the camera and raised his hands in surprise and replied: “Shut up. Just checking in?”

“Just checking in,” Meghan replied. “I still can’t believe she knows who I am.”

The former Suits star then went on to read out the text from the singer, who says in the message she thinks Meghan was “selected to break generational curses”.

Meghan said: “She said she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability. And she thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed.” Harry adds: “That’s well said.”

The royal dad-of-two also received another important text following the pair’s sit down with Oprah – from his brother Prince William.

Harry is seen showing Meghan something on his phone, which was revealed to be the text from William, who he already had a strained relationship with.

“Wow,” Meghan responds, with both of them looking a little stunned. “Yeah, he just got a text from his brother.”

Harry then admits that he wished he knew what to do, as Meghan comforts him with: “I Know. Let’s take a breather. Get some air and then decide.”

The Sussexes' bombshell Oprah chat sparked a rare statement from Buckingham Palace and Meghan’s director friend Tyler Perry, who offered the couple his $13 million mansion in LA to live in before they found a permanent base, was the one who informed the couple that the Royals had spoken out.

The statement read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan. The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.

"Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members."
