Significance behind Eugenie and Zara Tindall’s sons’ double christening date

There appeared to be a special significance behind the date of the double christening for Princess Eugenie and Zara Tindall's sons.

Both Eugenie’s son August and Zara’s son Lucas were given the middle name Philip and their joint christening happened just one day after what would have been the Queen and her late husband Prince Philip’s 74th wedding anniversary.

The Queen attended the event at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor and was pictured wearing a lime green outfit as she left in a car with her security.

It was unclear whether the royal would be able to attend her great grandson’s christening after a sprained back left her unable to the annual Remembrance Sunday events.

The Queen and Prince Philip were married for an incredible 73 years, after tying the knot on 20 November 1947.

Prince Philip passed away in April at the age of 99.

While Eugenie attended with her husband Jack Brooksbank, Zara arrived with her husband Mike Tindall and their daughters Mia, seven, and Lena, three.

Eugenie welcomed August into the world in February, with Zara giving birth to Lucas the following month.

And fans were quick to praise the royal cousins for the date they chose to have the christening and the way in which they paid tribute to their grandparents.

One wrote: “It’s so lovely that they not only they chose to have a double christening (so all the family will be together), but mostly that they chose the day of The Queen and Prince Philip’s wedding anniversary, the first that HM is without her husband.”

Another added: “Today is the first wedding anniversary the Queen will spend as a widow.

“I am glad she will be having a day of celebration with the christening of two babies who have been named after her late husband.”

However, it was reported that Eugenie’s husband Jack’s father passed away just days before his grandson’s christening.

It’s believed he had been suffering from Covid-19, and had been ill for some time with the virus.

At one stage last year, the late 72 year old had been on a ventilator for five weeks.

Look out for 'Kate At 40', a collector's edition of OK! magazine packed full of exclusive content about the Duchess Of Cambridge. On sale now for £4.99 at most good newsagents.

Following his poor health and his stint in hospital last year, Eugenie and Jack were reportedly told to “prepare for the worst”.

Jack’s late father was a retired chartered accountant and company director and had two homes – one in south London and one in Bordeaux, France – which he split his time between alongside his wife, Nicola.
