Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker, 60, has taken to Twitter to hit out at the choice of crisps that he found behind-the-scenes. The former professional footballer has been working with Walkers for over 26 years and was not happy when he found crisps belonging to rival brand McCoys in his dressing room.

In view of his 7.9 million followers, the retired footballer revealed that he had decided to forgo snacking on the ridged potato chip.

Not happy with the limited offerings, Gary vented his frustration to his fans.

He wrote: “Someone’s taking the p*** with this lot in my dressing room. Think I’ll pass.”

The sports star’s post has so far gained over 35,000 likes from followers.

Lineker has been a part of the Walkers brand for 26 years, and in October signed a contract extending his services until 2023.

As part of the contract, the ex-footballer reportedly bagged a huge £1.2million.

The new deal will see him in fewer adverts as he takes on an ambassadorial role, according to Fernando Kahane, Walkers’ senior marketing director.

He has also recently signed a five-year deal with the BBC said to be worth £6.75million.

Fans of the sports broadcaster were quick to weigh in on the crisp debate, with some telling the star he was missing out by turning the crisps down.

“Tell you what those Thai sweet chilli McCoys are next level, you’d be a fool to pass up a packet of those bad boys”, one social media user wrote.

A second penned: “Firstly, Thai Sweet Chicken McCoy’s are elite tier crisps. Secondly, eat the Sunbites if you’re that brand loyal.”

However, some of the football star’s fans couldn’t help but take the opportunity to take a jibe at Gary’s sporting abilities.

One wrote: “You? Pass? You’ve changed…” followed by a laughing face emoji.

While another echoed the same idea: “You and pass in the same sentence first time ever.” (sic)

After Christian Eriksen collapsed during the Denmark vs Belgium game last week, the Match of the Day presenter was among the first to pay tribute to the sportsman.

The Danish footballer went into cardiac arrest on the pitch before being taken off, leading Gary to take to social media to wish him well.

He wrote: “In 25 years of doing this job, that was the most difficult, distressing and emotional broadcast I’ve ever been involved with.”

The star went on to wish the footballer well following the news that he was in hospital recovering.

“Thanks to @cesc4official @AlexScott @MicahRichards for your professionalism, warmth and empathy.

“Get well soon, Christian Eriksen”, he signed off.
