Souvenirs for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Have the Most Incredible Typo

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee (marking 70 years as monarch) is coming up this year, so naturally England is busy making a ton of souvenirs for the occasion. But um, unfortunately someone in charge of said souvenirs made an enormous typo whilst spelling “Platinum Jubilee” and now a bunch of cups and plates say “Platinum Jubbly.” Bless!

Of course, this is great news for people who have been longing for a teacup with the Queen’s face that says “Platinum Jubbly” on it, because the misprinted items will still be for sale. The BBC reports that a company called Wholesale Clearance has stepped in to offload the 10,000+ misprinted cups and plates, advertising them as “Souvenir Stock with Slight Typo Mistake.” Huh. Bold use of the word “slight.”

“What could be more unique than our limited-edition misprinted crockery?” the clearance website boss, Karl Baxter, tells the BBC. “This could be your chance to get your hands on a novelty souvenir for a fraction of the price.”

The items will be discounted for about 90% which seems like a deal for something as valuable as “Platinum Jubbly” memorabilia. I know what I’m getting all my loved ones for Christmas!

Anyway, expect Jubilee/Jubbly events to start in earnest soon—including a “Platinum Party at the Palace” which the royal website says will be broadcast by the BBC and feature “a special live concert from Buckingham Palace that will bring together some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars to celebrate the most significant and joyous moments from The Queen’s seven decade reign. Members of the public will be invited to apply to attend this special event and details of the ballot for UK residents to secure audience tickets will be released in February.”
