Special way Princess Beatrice paid tribute to the late Queen on her wedding day

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi announced their engagement in September 2019 and the couple married in a private ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor Great Park on July 17, 2020.

The only members of the family who attended the wedding were the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of York, Princess Eugenie, Jack Brooksbank and Edo's son, Christopher Woolf Mapelli Mozzi (better known by his nickname 'Wolfie').

While the day was intimate when compared to the huge affairs other members of the family have enjoyed, Princess Beatrice made sure that there was a series of sweet family connections included.

Princess Beatrice's wedding dress was particularly special as it was adapted from one of the late Queen's dresses which she had previously worn to the premiere of the Lawrence of Arabia in 1962.

The dress was designed by Sir Norman Hartnell, who also designed the Queen's wedding dress, as well as her coronation outfit.

The ivory vintage dress includes organza sleeves added especially for the wedding and was made from Peau De Soie taffeta. The look is completed by geometric bodice and diamanté adornments.

Beatrice's look was completed by Queen Mary's Russian Fringe tiara which the late Queen previously wore when she married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in 1947.

The tiara famously broke just hours before the wedding and had to be urgently fixed by the Crown Jeweller. The incredible piece was also worn by Princess Anne on her first wedding day in 1973.

It was also been used by the late monarch on several occasions since then, such as for her Diamond Jubilee portrait for New Zealand.

While the wedding was a far cry from what royal fans were used to, there were a number of traditions that were broken before and throughout the day.

One custom which wasn't followed was that Princess Beatrice and Edoardo spent their final night together at home, rather than apart in two separate hotels or homes.

The Princess of Wales was pictured arriving at the Goring Hotel with mum Carole and her sister Pippa Matthews on April 28, 2011.

The Middleton trio were given the royal suite, which has gorgeous four-poster beds and a balcony overlooking the gardens. Meghan Markle also followed suit as she stayed at Cliveden House Hotel near Windsor with her mother, Doria Ragland, the night before she married Prince Harry at St George's Chapel.

While this was a major break with tradition, Princess Beatrice did follow in the footsteps of previous royal brides as she had her wedding bouquet sent to be left on the grave of the Unknown Soldier in Westminster Abbey.

This custom was started by the Queen Mother (then The Duchess of York) who unexpectedly laid her bouquet on top of the grave after her wedding to Prince Albert (later King George VI) in 1923 in memory of her beloved brother, Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who died in 1914 during the Battle of the Hohenzollern Redoubt.
