The Spice Girls,Girls Aloud and Sugababes all united to celebrate with Little Mix as the girl band made Brit Awards history on Tuesday night.

Perrie Edwards,Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall became the first all-female group to pick up the accolade for Best British Band at the star-studded event held at the O2 Arena.

As they accepted the award, the Woman Like Me singers gave an emotional shoutout to their former bandmateJesy Nelson and discussed the difficulties of being a woman in the music industry.

Speaking on stage, 27 year old Perrie, who recently announced her pregnancy, celebrated with: “Guys, we've just made history! I’m emotional.”

While 29 year old Leigh-Anne, who is also pregnant with her first child, added: “It’s not easy being a female in the UK pop industry.

“We have seen white male dominance, misogyny, sexism and lack of diversity.

“We are proud of how we have stuck together, stood our ground and surrounded ourselves with strong women and are now using our voices more than ever.”

The group then dedicated the accolade to Spice Girls, Girls Aloud, All Saints and Sugababes as they said: “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes, so this award isn't just for us, it's for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible female bands. This one's for you!”

Spice Girls’ official Twitter page wrote: “Congratulations @LittleMix Doing it for the Girls!! [peace emoji] #BRITs #GirlPower”.

While Too Lost In You singers Sugababes added: “Thank you [red heart emoji] @LittleMix This win is so deserved Queens [party popper emoji] [trophy emoji] Congratulations!”

As Jesy posted the photo on her Instagram story the singer, who recently started her solo career in the music business, shared five red heart emojis above the image along with three clapping hands emojis underneath the pic.

Jesy announced her decision to leave the group in December last year in a statement shared on her social media pages.

Recently, she revealed a panic attack on the set of their music video for Sweet Melody caused her to decide to leave the group.

She told Cosmopolitan: “On the day of the Sweet Melody video I had a panic attack on set because I didn’t look how I wanted to look and I found it so hard to just be happy and enjoy myself.“
