Fans of '90s pop band Steps have been left confused after one of its members, Ian 'H' Watkins, appears to have blocked multiple users on Twitter, seemingly at random.
Many people reported being randomly blocked by the 46 year old singer, despite some insisting that they had never interacted with his account.
One person tweeted: "It seems half of Twitter is blocked by H from Steps," while another wrote: "Boxing Day: when we *all* discover that we are *all* blocked by H from Steps," before adding: "I’ve never ever interacted with him, not even once."
A third tweeted: "I don’t know why I’ve been blocked by H from Steps. To my knowledge I’ve never interacted with Ian H Watkins here. BTW I love Steps."
"I am #BlockedByHFromSteps and I honestly have no idea where to go with this information," said a fourth, as a fifth joked: “Sorry but if you're not blocked by H from Steps by now what are you even doing with your life?"
It seems that H himself was left baffled by the course of events, as he took to Twitter to insist that he hadn't manually blocked people, and that instead, it was the work of a pesky software system that he had used "to get rid of bots".
Replying to one Twitter user, whose Tweet has since been deleted, on Boxing Day, H wrote: "Hi James.. I recently signed up for a clean up of ‘bots’ & ‘phobes’ … apologies if the blocking offended.. I didn’t do this manually! Merry Christmas."
On Christmas Eve, H had seemingly referred to the same thing as he tweeted: "You have no power here.. be gone!
"Who knew there was a ‘bot blocker’ ?? Love it!! #botblocker."
Fast-forward to 27 December, H made light of the situation by adding a graphic that included US chat show host Oprah Winfrey pointing into the audience at one of her shows.
It shows her in various poses as it says: "You get a block. And you get a block. Everybody get's a block." At the top, text read: "H from Steps be like…"
As he posted it, H wrote: "Afternoon…" with a crying-laughing emoji and a hand-raise emoji.
His tongue-in-cheek tweet didn't go down well with some people though, as one commented: "You seem to be p*****g off all the right people."
Another replied saying: "Just got to ask why though, why block so many people what had they done to deserve a block?
A third wrote: "You have made a lot of terrible people very angry and caused them to have a Bad Day. Bravo!"
H is one fifth of '90s popband, Steps, who exploded onto the UK music scene in 1997, becoming household names thanks to hits such as Tragedy and 5,6,7,8.
