Stevie Nicks Calls For Tougher Gun Laws After School Shooting

Stevie Nicks has made a call for tougher gun laws in the wake of the deadly Texas school shooting last month.

A teenager carrying a handgun and an AR-15 rifle opened fire at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, killing 19 students and two teachers. The 18-year-old gunman was killed by law enforcement at the scene.

It was the deadliest shooting targeting innocent school children since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

In an emotional statement posted on social media, Nicks appealed to the members of Congress to draft law making the availability of assault rifles “more difficult.”

“When those guns go into the hands of obviously disturbed people, it gives them a sense of unbelievable power that they have never felt before. Power, used in a bad way, is the opposite of ‘power’ used in a good way,” the Fleetwood Mac singer wrote. “Once people have felt the power of those guns, they are never the same. They are addicted. And then there is no turning back. So don’t give them that power. Make it really hard for them to get that gun.”

“No one is trying to take away guns from people who get them for a good reason. Guns are not toys. Background checks are not that hard,” she added.

Nicks, 74, cited her father’s favorite quote: “Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the right thing to do~ and sometimes the right thing to do ~ is the hardest thing to do.”
