Comedian Jayde Adams, 38, delighted Strictly fans as she sauntered onto the ballroom with her professional partner Karen Hauer at the end of last year. While the contestant deliberately chose to avoid heels in most of her routines, she revealed a little Cuban heel unleashed a surprising injury.

Getting onto Strictly Come Dancing was a “dream come true” for the comedian, who has been a fan of the show since it began.

However, her journey wasn’t without trepidation as she had suffered a devastating knee injury years earlier.

Luckily, Jayde’s exercise routine had strengthened her muscles enough to avoid worsening her existing ailments, but she revealed she suffered an entirely different injury to her foot during the show.

Speaking to Express.co.uk just before she embarked on her national Men I Can Save You tour, Jayde shared the “worst thing” she endured on Strictly Come Dancing.

She explained that her “little Cuban heel” wreaked havoc on her foot, saying: “Oh my gosh, my fourth metatarsal on my left foot, terrible. But that’s gone now because I’m not in heels anymore.”

The comedian deliberately chose to avoid the classic ballroom heels, explaining: “Because I believe they’re torture contraptions designed to make women stand still so I’m all about the flat foot.”

Reflecting on her Strictly experience, Jayde, who was the 4th eliminated in the series, declared: “Strictly was an amazing experience and one I will remember for the rest of my life.

“I’ve made some great friends from it, some great contacts as well.

“There’s some people from behind the scenes that I’m carrying on working with. I got a lot out of it.”

Jayde touchingly added: “One of the most positive experiences about Strictly is realising that I’m not broken because I thought I might be and I thought maybe it’s not going to work.”

The comedian was referring to a knee injury she suffered seven years ago, and admitted that she had “a lot more dance in my life” before.

She shared: “I had a knee injury. I did a scissor-kick to PJ and Duncan’s Let’s Get Ready to Rumble at Bethnal Green Working Men’s club.

“I was at one of my drag queen nights that I used to perform at and I damaged my ACL and there’s always been a worry.

“I had lots of physio but there was always a worry about it.

When she initially got into Strictly, her family had some concerns over her injury as well, to which she responded: “I was like, ‘Look, we’re just going to go day-by-day and what happens happens’.

“What ended up happening, because I was doing loads of squats everyday, was that I had no problems with it at all.”
