While onGood Morning Britainon Wednesday 3 November,Shirley Ballasgave an update on her health.
Strictly Come Dancing viewers expressed their concerns for the 61 year old after they spotted what they thought to bea “lump” under her arm during a recent show.
Discussing how she initially dismissed people’s concerns, Shirley decided to go to the doctors after more than 10 people contacted her.
She explained to Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid: “I put up my right arm and one or two people got in touch, I kind of ignored it, and then there was about 11 people so I thought ‘no I’d better go to the doctors’.”
Shirley went on to say that while her doctor couldn’t detect a lump, she looked at the Strictly judge’s previous bloodwork from a few months prior and was “alarmed by them”.
“She redid all my bloods last week,” Shirley continued, “And she was alarmed by testosterone levels and lack of oestrogen levels and other things that were going on, so I’m going on Friday – my test will be on Friday at King’s College.”
She added: "With me, the NHS has been really really quick. I normally find out within a week to 10 days, I can get the results and then my doctor can go from there."
Shirley recently revealed that she’s to undergo a full organ scanfollowing the advice of her doctor.
She explained to The Sun before getting her test date for Friday 5 November: “Your health is always a concern. My NHS doctor is very good, so the fact that she is concerned makes me concerned — and she was mortified by my results.
“She said I have the highest testosterone levels she’s ever seen in a woman, and testosterone can wreak havoc on the female organs.”
Despite the ongoing concerns, the 61 year old went on to say that she’s trying not to worry about it too much.
She said: “I try to not to focus on that [health worries] because it’s easy for me to go down a dark route.
“I don’t have enough information yet, so I just keep trundling forward.
“That’s how I coped when I had my last cancer scare — it comes from my mum, who is very stoic about everything.
“I’m so busy with Strictly, my day job as a dance coach, my mum, Audrey. Everything is so busy.”
Shirley’s most recent cancer scare was back in June after she found a lump on her shoulder.
Prior to that, the Strictly judge had her DD breast implants removed after being told they could block the signs of cancer being detected.
