Actor Will Mellor is set to be a favourite to go on and lift the Glitterball trophy as winner of Strictly Come Dancing for 2022 after topping the leaderboard and wowing judges and fans in week one of the show.
Betfair have now revealed Will’s odds of winning the show have been slashed to 6/4 from 5/1, making him the new favourite to win the show after an impressive opening week score of 34.
The Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps star, 46, shot to the top of the leaderboard in last night’s opening show of the series wowing fans and judges alike with their sensational Jive.
Following his electric performance with dance partnerNancy Xu to Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin, the Hollyoaks star was a huge hit with fans who rushed to Twitter to tip him to go on and win the show.
One wrote: “I’m hooked now Will to win!!!”
While another shared: “Fantastic show! Will Mellor to win.”
A third took to Twitter to write: “If they smash the jive, they usually win. All aboard the Will Mellor winning #Strictly fandom.”
Another added: "I'm predicting you to win with those snake hips!!"
It wasn’t just fans who were impressed with the week one as judgesMotsi Mabuse, 41, andShirley Ballas, 62, were so impressed they gave him a standing ovation and a score of 34, leaving dancer Nancy, 31, in tears.
Motsi questioned where Mellor had learnt his impressive hip movements from as she exclaimed: “You surprised me, I’m speechless. That was fantastic. Best start ever.”
WhileAnton Du Beke, 56, said that it looked like the actor had been dancing the routine for 18 months, adding: “It was absolutely amazing.”
Will admitted that his "knees are in shock" ahead of Saturday night’s performance but they did not seem to hold him back.
He shared a video of himself resting with a bag of frozen peas after rehearsals.
He said: "Just in rehearsal for Strictly, Will's knees sponsored by peas! I am knackered."
The dad of two captioned the video on Instagram with: "In rehearsal for @bbcstrictly !! My knees are in shock!! #tooldforthis #strictlycomedancing #dancing #badknees #shattered."
Other odds on this year’s contestants include BBC presenter Helen Skelton now 9/2 to win after being the early 7/2 market leader before Saturday's show and early favourite Fleur East is also at 9/2 odds.
Former Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh and radio DJ Tyler West are 9/1, followed by Hamza Yassin at 12/1.
