Tamara Ecclestone’s father-in-law dies: Socialite and her heartbroken husband Jay Rutland pay tribute to his dad saying: ‘I am proud to have known him’

Tamara Ecclestone’s father-in-law David Rutland has passed away.

Her husband Jay Rutland, 41, shared the sad news of his dad’s passing on Instagram on Thursday, writing about how heartbroken he is. No cause of death was given.

Jay wrote: ‘Absolutely heartbroken writing this. A day I always worried about, but much sooner than I ever expected.

‘Dad, I love you and miss you more than you would ever realise. You loved my girls so much and I know how much joy it gave you seeing all the things they get up to.’

‘So often you would call me in disbelief having seen the latest thing Fifi had accomplished. I am so incredibly sad that they won’t get to see you again.

‘I think that’s what hurts the most. The little bond you already had with Riri makes my heart hurt.

Home is where the heart is: Jay shared this family snap along with his mother Marji and father, (right) wife Tamara (far left) and his daughters, Sophia, eight and Serena, two

‘I am so glad we got to do the things we did together and I hope you knew how loved you truly were by all of your family.’

He continued: ‘You were a unique man, not one for much emotion or feelings but when I saw your IPad screensaver was Fifi last night it made me laugh and cry at the same time.

‘I now have an overwhelming sadness that you are gone but they say that grief is the price we pay for love. ❤️

‘God bless Dad, you are with Mark now and we will all meet again one day X.’

A host of famous friends took to the comments section to pay their respects.

Footballer Jack Wilshere wrote: ‘Sorry for your loss Jay. Thoughts with you.’

Musician Professor Green penned: ‘So sorry mate x’

Denise Van Outen’s ex Eddie Boxshall wrote: ‘Thinking of you jay and all your family . X.’

Tamara then took to her own Instagram to share a picture of her father-in-law and mother-in-law with Jay and their two children Sophia and Serena.

She then penned a tribute to David, writing how much she would miss him and how hard it had been to tell Sophia the tragic news.

She wrote: ‘Going to miss my father in law very much. He was a man of few words. I can be pretty sure in the beginning he thought some of my ideas were pretty nuts including the dog stairs for the little dogs to get into the bed.

‘For anyone that knows Dave you can imagine his thoughts on this. He didn’t share my love of birthdays or cakes but none the less I persisted.

‘I was determined to change that. I know how much he loved our girls, nutty and trouble he called them.

‘I will miss hearing his voice over the phone when he called Jay he would always ask how’s the baby? And always talk with such pride about Fifi he truly believed there is nothing she cannot do. He was amazed by her skiing her singing. He was filled with pride.

‘Whilst I never changed his mind about cake or birthdays I think he respected me for being the girls mum because in his eyes they are perfect.

‘Whenever Jay would tell Fifi off for screen time Dave would always say leave her alone she’s all right, much to Fifi’s delight.

‘I sadly had to tell Fifi this heart breaking news one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. Our little girl said that perhaps Grandad Dave can do kickboxing in heaven with her friend Azuma and went on to say that she will never let Riri forget him.

‘Dave was a man who never judged, never interfered. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren.

‘I am proud to of know him. I will miss our roast dinners and chicken pies. I will miss him.’
