Selena Gomez’s longtime close friend Taylor Swift didn’t wait long to make her opinion about Gomez’s intimate documentary, My Mind and Me, known. Hours after the film, which explores Gomez’s mental health journey over the last six years and life adjusting to her a bipolar disorder diagnosis, was released on Apple TV+, Swift posted about the project on her Instagram Story. Swift shared footage from a teaser and wrote, “So proud of you @selenagomez. Love you forever. 🥹”
Gomez spoke about Swift being her only industry friend in her cover story with Rolling Stone released this week. “I never fit in with a cool group of girls that were celebrities,” she said. “My only friend in the industry really is Taylor [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy? [I realized] I just didn’t like who I was, because I didn’t know who I was.”

She also spoke to SiriusXM about how she sees Swift as an inspiration musically, too. “The most influential artist, for me, it is kind of Taylor [Swift], not because she’s my friend, but she has been an artist that can transition into so many different genres, and she is able to do it seamlessly,” Gomez said. “And I admire that so much, and that’s so rare. I love her process and I just admire all the work that she’s done. She’s definitely inspired me.”
