The Apprentice’s Tim Campbell was named the first ever winner of the programme back in 2005 and was offered a £100,000 per year job. Now, the successful businessman has now been announced as the new boardroom aide after Lord Alan Sugar’s business associate Claude Littner pulled out of the new series due to a cycling accident.
Addressing Claude’s unfortunate circumstances, Tim said he and his co-stars are happy he is making a recovery.
He also expressed his gratitude after being able to have “come full circle” since his debut on the show.
Tim said: “It’s a great honour to be part of the franchise which after sixteen series has been a transformation in terms of showing that business is for everybody, now it’s Lord Sugar’s ambition.
“It was a great regret when we heard the news about Claude.
“He was such a massive part of the franchise and we’re really pleased that he’s doing well and he’s on the road to recovery.
“But it’s a great honour to have come full circle having been on the other side of the table.
“I definitely understand what they’re all going through and it’s a great honour to be working alongside Baroness Brady in assisting these candidates to see how they all get on.”
The TV star also spoke out on what he found “easy” now as a boardroom member after having been in the contestant’s position.
He said: “It was very easy not to give them hints and tips. I didn’t get any when it was my turn.
“And actually the series is all about Lord Sugar finding his next business partner.
“Having invested millions in business it’s now [the contestants’] opportunity to really showcase skills and attributes they have around business, which all of the tasks will actually elicit from.”
Despite his huge victory in the first series of The Apprentice, Tim was not immune to being in Lord Sugar’s “firing line”.
During episode 10 of season one, Lord Sugar said he was “struggling” to decide whether or not Tim should be fired.
He said: “Tim, this is the first time really, you’ve been in the firing line. Honestly, I’m not impressed.
“You haven’t convinced me why I shouldn’t fire you today to be perfectly frank with you.
“I am struggling.”
After being in the bottom three, Tim stepped his game up and went on to secure the high-paid role at Lord Sugar’s firm Amstrad.
He became Project Director of the new Health & Beauty division.
After two years at Amstrad, Tim went on to set up the Bright Ideas Trust, which helps young entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds.
By January 2015, Bright Ideas trust had supported more than 150 start-ups as they obtained funding worth up to £1.5million.
