If I stop to think about it too much, it’s legitimately crazy that private businesses and unwieldy sports tours are faster to respond to Donald Trump’s fascism and terrorism than most public officials. Twitter finally suspended Trump’s account, and so have other social media companies. Companies are cracking down not just on Trump, but on his Nazi supporters who attempted to violently overthrow the government last week. The latest domino to fall: the PGA Championship, a prestigious “get” for any golf club owner. Trump has hosted the PGA Championship at his Bedminster golf course before, and he was set to host it again in 2022. But not anymore – the PGA announced on Sunday that they’re withdrawing from the Bedminster course and looking for another location.
The organizers of the PGA Championship canceled plans to hold the event at President Trump’s Bedminster, N.J., golf club in 2022 in the wake of last week’s Trump-inspired riot at the U.S. Capitol. In a statement that did not directly address the unrest in the nation’s capital, Jim Richerson, PGA of America’s president, said the group’s board voted Sunday night to “exercise the right to terminate the agreement” with Trump’s course.
“It’s become clear that conducting the PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster would be detrimental to the PGA of America brand and would put at risk the PGA’s ability to deliver our many programs and sustain the longevity of our mission,” Richerson said in a video posted to the organization’s website. “Our board has thus made the decision to exercise our right to terminate the contract to hold the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump Bedminster. “It was a decision made to ensure the PGA of America and the PGA professionals can continue to lead and grow our great game for decades to come.”
The PGA Championship is one of the four majors in men’s golf, and therefore it was scheduled to be the most prestigious event ever held at a Trump property. His New Jersey course hosted the 2017 U.S. Women’s Open, and his course in Loudoun County, Va., hosted the Senior PGA Championship that same summer.
“We have had a beautiful partnership with the PGA of America and are incredibly disappointed with their decision,” a Trump Organization spokeswoman said in a statement. “This is a breach of a binding contract and they have no right to terminate the agreement. As an organization we have invested many, many millions of dollars in the 2022 PGA Championship at Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster. We will continue to promote the game of golf on every level and remain focused on operating the finest golf courses anywhere in the world.”

I can hear the seething and whining from that Trump Org statement. LOL. It’s actually not the millions spent by Trump Org to host the event, it’s the prestige factor, it’s the fact that he has always been fundamentally desperate for legitimacy and acceptance. And he’s a bottomless pit of need, which explains some of his fascism. Anyway, I honestly think that sh-t like this – the PGA publicly breaking with him – hurts Trump more than any threat of impeachment or invocation of the 25th Amendment. If he still had his Twitter, he would be rage-tweeting about THIS, not the threat of impeachment.
