This Morning’s Alison Hammond emotional on three year anniversary of her mum’s death

Alison Hamond became emotional live on TV after realising it was the anniversary of her mother’s death.

The 47-year-old was presenting This Morning on Friday with co-host Dermot O’Leary when she remembered the important date.

The pair were talking about superstitions with TV therapists Nik and Eva Speakman.

The married couple are resident therapists on the ITV show, and host a regular segment where they give agony aunt advice to callers, usually helping people with mental health problems like anxiety, OCD and PTSD.

“Do you know what?” Alison said, adding: “This just reminded me, it’s the 13th of January today isn’t it? This is the date my mum passed away…in bed 13. And we buried her on February 13. It’s just literally come to me.”

Demot replied: “Wow.”

She added: “And we did it on the 13th because I just thought, why not, because it was all 13. So I don’t associate it with anything bad.

“It was a lovely funeral, it’s literally just come to me!”

Dermot immediately comforted her, holding Alison’s arm to check she was okay after talking about the tragedy.

The Speakman’s then swooped in, saying: “We were talking about it and that’s exactly it, we were talking and life is about what we choose to look for and there’s good in everyday,

“Good things and bad things happen all the time.”

One of the couple’s key bits of advice when choosing to look for the good in the everyday is starting by adding the words ‘but luckily’ at the end of every negative sentence.

In 2020, TV legend Alison announced the sad news that her mum had passed away in a lovely tribute on Instagram to her 1.2million followers.

At the time she wrote: “Today I dedicate Valentine’s Day to my beautiful, wonderful Mother Maria who passed away from liver and lung cancer.

“Yesterday my family and I celebrated her amazing life and laid her to rest in a beautiful ceremony she would have been proud of.

“Thank you mummy for giving me the strength to move forward in the knowledge that your ok and with God in Heaven now. I will always remember you and try and make you proud. I love you mum.”

In 2019, Alison also told OK! that her mum was always a pivotal part of Christmas Day and that she loved to spend the festive season with her.

She said: “I’ll be honest, I just do the vegetables and gravy because I can’t be bothered.

“My mum gets up at like 2am to cook a turkey. It’s crazy. I’m not doing that. I need my beauty sleep.”

It’s part of the reason that Alison has now made a new tradition with her best friend and This Morning co-star Josie Gibson.

For the last two years, the bubbly pair have taken it in turn to go to each other’s homes and hang out with their children while they put their feet up and relax.
