This WandaVision<\/em> Fan Theory Just ‘Solved’ the Show’s Recurring Hexagon Symbol

WandaVision hasn’t been shy about seeding mysteries, teasers and Easter eggs throughout its narrative, and one of the show’s recurring motifs has been the hexagon. It has appeared in title sequences, in the background of shots, and even forms the shape of what SWORD Director Hayward calls the “Maximoff Anomaly”, better known to you, me and Dr. Darcy Lewis as “The Hex.”

Marvel fans have been discussing the meaning of the hexagon for weeks now, and there are a couple of possible explanations for what it might mean.

One is that the Hex, as Darcy has dubbed the hexagonal anomaly, is a reference to Wanda’s comic book history. Historically, her character was known to be able to affect probability using “hex” bolts, so-named because as we all know, Wanda went by Scarlet Witch in the comics. Given that “hex” is a synonym for “curse,” and that the residents of Westview sure seem to be trapped in a Once Upon a Time-esque reality-altering curse, this all tracks.

Another theory is that that the six-sided hexagon shape refer to the six Infinity Stones, the cosmic plot devices that have formed the backbone of the last decade of MCU lore. More specifically, Michael Roman from the Everything Always YouTube channel points out that the hexagon shape shows up as part of the Mind Stone’s molecular structure in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Mind Stone (which itself has six sides) played an important role in both Vision and Wanda’s origin stories in that movie, and then again in Vision’s ultimate demise in Avengers: Infinity War.

Of course, the Mind Stone was destroyed along with the rest of the Infinity Stones in Endgame, but as it was the source of Wanda’s psychokinetic abilities, Roman speculates that the symbol has been recurring throughout the show as evidence that this sitcom reality is a manifestation of her powers, and an indicator that Wanda is in fact responsible for everything that’s happening.

Episode 5 of WandaVision certainly seemed to support this theory, although it remains to be seen whether Wanda is fully in control of Westview, or if another entity might be pulling the strings. If there’s one thing we know by now when it comes to WandaVision, it’s that we don’t know everything.
