Tom O’Connor, 81, sadly died following a 14 year battle with Parkinson’s disease and now tributes have poured in for the much-loved comedian. Piers Morgan, 55, addressed the news in a moving tweet and thanked the “Liverpool legend” for the laughs.

Piers typed: “RIP Tom O’Connor, 81. Comedian, TV game show host, Liverpool legend & a very funny man. Sad news. 

“Thanks for all the laughs, Tom,” he added.

His daughter-in-law and former athlete Denise Lewis thanks the former Good Morning Britain host for his “kind words”.

She responded: “On behalf of all the family, Thank you for your kind words Piers.”

Piers retweeted her comments and typed back: “Sincere condolences to all of you, Denise. 

“He used to make me laugh every time I saw him on TV. Wonderful character.”

Joining Piers in the mourning of Tom’s passing was former breakfast TV rival Dan Walker, who also took time to pay his respects to the late star.

Dan said: “How sad. I had the pleasure of meeting Tom O’Connor and he was kind, funny and a true gent.

“I loved watching him on telly – Crosswits was great.

“My sympathies are with his family and friends.”

While former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney posted a photo of Tom on her Instagram story, typing: “So sad to hear of the passing of lovely Tom O’Connor.

“He really helped when I was a teenager starting in the business. He was so kind to me and my family. 

“Thoughts are with Pat and his family. RIP Tom O’Connor.”

Tom’s daughter-in-law former sports star Denise had confirmed the news but his cause of death has not yet been announced.

The Bootle-born icon found fame in 1970, with his break coming on the show The Comedians before he later became one of the televisions best-loved names.
