She’s a busy working mum to her three-year-old daughter Sunday, but Ferne McCann has always made sure she finds the time to focus on her wellbeing.
And to kick off the new year, the former TOWIE star has just launched a new six-week programme on her fitness platform, Embodyment, to help other mums keep active at home.
Along with a range of different workouts, the programme also includes yoga, meditation videos and family-friendly recipes – something that was hugely important for Ferne.
Opening up about staying physically and mentally fit, Ferne explains to new magazine: “Sometimes you need to support and look after yourself so then you can keep yourself at your optimum and you become a better parent and a better professional.”

When new magazine catch up over Zoom, she says Sunday is constantly reaching new milestones – and new get to witness the cute toddler’s growing personality when she makes a surprise appearance during the chat.
“Her speech is incredible,” proud Ferne gushes. “The things she comes out with are just so funny.”
While Ferne admits she’s content in life, she says she’d love to expand her family in the future. She’s in no rush to give Sunday a sibling just yet, but feels broody for the first time since giving birth in 2017. Could that be something to do with her new man, model Jack Padgett? The pair were spotted in South Africa over the new year, packing on the PDAs while on a work trip with Sunday.

However, Ferne’s not keen to discuss her fella during new's chat. What she is happy to talk about, however, is her adorable daughter, her resolutions for 2021, and finding the time in her busy schedule to work out…
Hi Ferne! What are you hoping 2021 brings you?
I’d love to travel and see more of the world with Sunday. I just want to spend more quality time with my family and friends and continue to look after my health. And I’d love to fall in love.
Well, that sounds promising judging by the latest news…
I absolutely love love. I want to fall in love and have more children and live with a boy. I want all of those things for sure.
What do you usually look for in a partner?
It’s just all about a connection. I love that feeling, that force, when you feel chemistry with someone. I look for kindness. And someone I’ve got a vibe with and can have a laugh with and just be myself with. If you can be your true self with someone, I think that’s such a beautiful thing. Obviously my priorities have changed slightly now. Having Sunday, we come as a package and a pair, so that special person has to fit in with our lives as well.
You said you’d like to have more children. Do you think that could be on the cards?
I’d love to have more children. I felt broody the other day seeing a pregnant woman in the supermarket. It’s such a crazy feeling. I haven’t had that ever since having Sunday. I’ve always just felt content. When Sunday was born, I was asked if I wanted more kids, and I was like, “She’s a newborn! Can I just learn to be a mum and enjoy it?” But yeah, she’s three and I’d love more children. But in good time.
Do you have any dreams for Sunday in 2021?
She’ll start school this year, which is going to be crazy. I just want her to be kind and to just love life. I love educating her and watching her grow. And she educates me, too. It’s definitely the most wonderful experience being a parent. But actually, my dream and goal for Sunday in 2021 is to stop with the tantrums. That’s my goal for the girl.
Ha! How do you feel about her starting school?
I’m excited for her. She goes to nursery four days a week. I work and I’m a single parent so she has to go into childcare, so I don’t think it’s going to be that much of a change. It’s just the next chapter.
Is Sunday reaching new milestones all the time?
Yeah. I always say I’ve got no one to compare her to because obviously she’s my first child, but we have such funny conversations. She’s at such a great age. She’s testing, don’t get me wrong. She loves a tantrum, but she’s so funny. She’s one of a kind. Her personality has well and truly blossomed – my God! She’s very witty.
What’s the biggest challenge of motherhood for you?
Sometimes I look at her and I’m like, “Why don’t you just do what I ask?” It’s so frustrating. I’m like, “Just do it! Not everything has to be a battle. Just put your T-shirt on, babes.” They push your buttons and test your boundaries. Sometimes I think she’s got me all sussed out and wrapped around her little finger.
As a working mum, how do you stay motivated to keep fit?
I guess it’s a part of life now for me. I like to remind myself of how it makes me feel physically and mentally after a workout. I just get a real sense of clarity and I feel amazing afterwards. I believe that when I’m at my fittest, healthiest and strongest, everything else falls into line and I feel better about life. Setting yourself goals and setting dates in the diary is a great way to stay motivated because then it’s realistic. I also want to be healthy for Sunday.
How often do you work out?
I aim for at least three times a week – anything more is a bonus. That is something I stuck to a long time ago. I like to do something every day – whether it’s a walk or a HIIT workout.
What are your favourite workouts to do?
I do love to do HIIT because you just get it done and you sweat and you know you’re burning calories. It just gets the job done and you feel so pumped after. I like working out to be fun and engaging.
And does working out help you mentally?
It’s so important and so beneficial. It’s a form of meditation. It’s not just to keep yourself fit and healthy physically, it’s to keep you healthy mentally as well. I believe it’s a way to bring you into the present moment and to just let some stress out. It makes me feel great.
Would you say that you’re body confident?
I definitely think it’s come with time. I don’t know whether it’s come with age now that I’m 30, but I think a little bit of self-love helps. When you start seeing the physical changes, it’s so rewarding. When you start hitting your goals and targets, you do feel great when you look in the mirror and you do gain that body confidence. But it runs so much deeper than just looking in the mirror. It’s more about being kind to yourself and celebrating you.
What’s your diet like?
I think nutrition is really important. What you’re fuelling your body with is just as important as exercise. I love to create healthy, nutritious food. We’ve got lots of great recipes on Embodyment. But of course it’s a balance and I love my naughty treats as well. But eating healthily is key.
What are some of your favourite treats?
Pizza, Prosecco, chocolate, cheese, bread and butter. Yummy! I love it all.
Is Sunday a good eater?
She is. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a three-year-old and she loves chicken nuggets and chips. I tell her, “You’re going to turn into chicken nuggets and chips.” If she could eat that every day, she would. But she isn’t a fussy eater. That was something really important to me as a parent. I wanted to make sure that she tries different foods and I really encourage that. I think by getting your children involved in the kitchen, they’re more inclined to eat the food.
You previously admitted you’ve been going to therapy for three years. Do you see therapy as a long-term thing for you?
Yeah, if I’m honest. For me, it’s been the most beneficial and positive thing I’ve ever spent my money on. Investing it into me and my self-development and working through emotions and experiences. Sitting with those feelings and talking it through with someone who’s completely impartial is really positive.
You’ve just launched your Shape It Up six-week programme. What can we expect?
I wanted to create something that mums could absolutely love and something they can fit around their busy lifestyles. A lot of people can fall into this lifestyle where they’re not actually looking after themselves because they’re looking after their children. It’s short, sharp exercises which range from 10 minutes to half an hour to fit around being a busy parent. I filmed some amazing recipes with Sunday. Recipes that are going to feed a whole family that are cheap, super easy and nutritious. We’ve also got a brand new mindfulness section and you’ll have the full access to everything in Embodyment.
What else would you love to do this year?
I’d love to land myself a food and travel show where I’m the presenter. That sounds like a good plan to me. I’m a real foodie so If I could marry the two where I’m learning more about food and travelling at the same time, that would be a goal.
Finally, have you made any resolutions for 2021?
My resolutions are to spend less time on my phone and be in the present moment, eat less chocolate and raise my vibrations. I just want to ride that frequency. You know when you’re having a good day and then more good things just keep happening? That’s the sweet spot. You can get there, you just need to work at it.
Shape It Up is a new six-week programme from Ferne’s Embodyment health and fitness platform, including workouts that mums can do at home to fit around their children. Find out more at embodyment.co.uk
