In September, Mel C, 48, claimed that she and Mel B, 47, were working hard on getting all five Spic Girls back together for a reunion tour. However, Victoria Beckham, 48, slammed any hopes this may have given Spice fans as she told Andy Cohen, 54, she only plans on singing at karaoke.
In early October, Melanie Chisholm, better known as Sporty Spice Mel C, told Extra TV that she was working hard to make a full reunion a reality.
She said her and Melanie Brown, also known as Scary Spice Mel B, are championing the initiative.
In the 2019 Spice Girls reunion tour, one notable absence was Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham.
Mel C told Extra TV that Victoria still has some say in the Spice Girls’ activities, despite her unwillingness to get back on stage.
She explained: “We’re always working on her. It’s like no pressure but the world wants it. At the moment Victoria is still in the wings. It is our dream to get her back.”
Next month is the 25th anniversary of Spiceworld and rumours are flying that the Spices could be the legacy headliners of Glastonbury 2023.
Fans were convinced that these two events combined would be enough to convince Victoria back onstage, but their hopes were dashed this week.
Victoria appeared alongside actress Anne Hathaway, 39, on Watch What Happens Live.
The former Posh Spice was asked if she could be convinced to rejoin the Spice Girls, to which she gushed: “I had so much fun being in Spice Girls but I think now with everything else I’ve got going on, my fashion, my beauty line, four children, I just couldn’t commit to that.
“I had so much fun in the Spice Girls. I love the girls, I really enjoy singing the Spice Girls when I’m doing karaoke, but I better leave it there.”
Undeterred, host Andy Cohen recommended a potential “hologram-Spice” taking after the ABBA hologram shows in London.
Victoria admitted it was “a great idea” but even her fellow guest Anne picked up on her palpable lack of enthusiasm.
Anne commented sarcastically: “I feel like that was British for that’s a ‘good’ idea.”
Victoria quickly added that she did believe it was a genuinely good idea, but not much had changed in her tone.
As part of her first attendance on the show, Victoria was treated to some quick fire questions by Andy.
When asked what her favourite karaoke song was she quickly shouted “Spice Up Your Life” before recanting her answer.
She said: “Stop, because it’s got a really great little dance routine that goes down a storm.”
The fashion designer also cheekily declared she doesn’t ‘go’ to concerts: “I am the concert.” despite not wanting to return to the Spice stage.
Although a celebratory reunion of the Spice Girls may not be on the cards, the 25th anniversary is still bringing forward a special edition of Spiceworld.
The expanded album reportedly includes previously unreleased live tracks and demos.
