The Super Bowl is almost here…but who cares about football? For those us of who don’t know whose playing this weekend—the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—it’s the half-time show and commercials that really matter. And when brands like Scott’s and Miracle Gro unite in business and budget, that means one thing: massive talent.
Their new 45-second spot, which will air this Sunday, includes a few names you might recognize: NASCAR’s Kyle Busch, The Mandalorian’s Carl Weathers, Martha Stewart, and John Travolta himself, recreating an iconic dance scene from his Grease days.
In the ad, in which Travolta’s daughter Ella also appears, the 66-year-old attempts to film what looks like a TikTok video of his legendary moves, hand-jive and all. “He’s still got it,” says Stewart, lurking in the background. (Here’s a side-by-side comparison from the scene in the film.)
Of course, Travolta is no stranger to the dance floor (see: Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction, Hairspray). And for a 5-second appearance, Travolta likely scored one of the biggest paychecks of his career. Back in 2016, the NY Post reported a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl costs an advertiser around $4.5 million. Arnold Schwarzenegger made an estimated $4 million alone from his 2014 Bud Light ad.
Pays to dance well, it looks like.
