Wayne Rooney is set to discuss both his professional and personal life in a candid documentary, it was reported on Friday.

According to claims from The Sun, the football manager, 35, has sat down for several interviews with the team who made BAFTA award-winning documentaries on Amy Winehouse and Ayrton Senna.

In the footage, Wayne is said to have spoken about several aspects of his personal life, including ‘marital mistakes’ and ‘drink-driving’, as well his prolific career as a professional footballer.

Speaking up: Wayne Rooney is ‘set to discuss his drink-driving and marital woes in candid documentary as the England star looks back on his prolific career’, it was reported on Friday

Speaking to the publication, a source said: ‘It’s going to be a wonderfully powerful and inspiring look at Wayne’s career — how he went from unknown boy wonder to national captain, and England’s greatest- ever goal scorer.

‘But it also offers a rarely seen look at the man behind the player. He will likely be asked about marital mistakes he’s made in the past, drink driving, and the time he was arrested in the US.

‘It is made clear he’s a fantastic dad, and loving husband — but he holds his hands up to previous lapses in judgement. Wayne will, of course, also have a say in what gets signed off.’

MailOnline has contacted Wayne’s representatives for further comment.

Discussion: According to reports, the football manager has done several interviews for the documentary (pictured with wife Coleen and sons L-R: Kai, Cass, Klay, and Kit)

A spokesperson for the footballer told The Sun it was unclear ‘what content’ would be included in the film, and it would only be known once the film was released.

In 2009 it was revealed that former escort Helen Wood had a threesome with the then-Manchester United player and her friend, and former escort, Jenny Thompson.

Helen has previously said that the glare of the media spotlight was unwelcome and uninvited and came only after Jenny went to the tabloids to name her.

Speaking to the Sunday People, Wood told Coleen she was sorry and that ‘she didn’t deserve anything’. The TV personality said: ‘I used to have a really pig-headed attitude towards the situation. I used to say ‘If she wants to stick with him that’s her own fault’.

‘Now I’m a bit older, I’m like, she’s just a mum who wants to be with her family, leave the girl alone. We all know a woman who puts up with a cheat. It’s unfortunate that hers is used as entertainment.’

In 2019 the former England captain’s marriage was said to be ‘hanging by a thread’ after he was spotted drinking with barmaid Vicki Rosiek until 2.30am.

In 2017, just before his US move was agreed, the former England captain apologised for his ‘unforgivable lack of judgement’ as he was banned from driving for two years and given 100 hours’ community service after a drinking heavily with a party girl.

He was stopped by police while driving 29-year-old Laura Simpson home from a night out in her Volkswagen Beetle in Wilmslow, Cheshire, at 2am on September 1. Rooney was stopped because Miss Simpson’s car had a faulty brake light.

Rooney was almost three times the legal limit. His breath reading was 104mg per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 35mg.

Coleen was then pregnant with the couple’s fourth child – and was seen without her wedding ring. For a period it appeared they were living separately but Mrs Rooney took him back after his apology.

In 2004 after Wayne, then aged 18, moved to Manchester United, national newspapers reported that the teenager paid £140 for sex with prostitute Charlotte Glover, then 21.

It was also claimed in 2004 that at a brothel in Liverpool he slept with Gina McCarrick, then 37, and grandmother Patricia Tierney, then 48, who wore a rubber catsuit and was known as the ‘Auld Slapper’.

The latter later denied these claims, but Wayne did admit to sleeping with unnamed prostitutes at the brothel.
