US actress Lisa Loring – best known for originally playing the iconic role of Wednesday Addams on the much-loved series The Addams Family – has sadly died aged 64 following a stroke.
According the Deadline.com, the TV star suffered a "massive stroke" on Sunday.
Her good friend Laure Jacobson shared the news of her death in a commemorative Facebook post, confirming Lisa had tragically passed away on Saturday after being taken off life support.
"It is with great sadness that I report the death of our friend, Lisa Loring. 4 Days ago she suffered a massive stroke brought on by smoking and high blood pressure," Lisa's dear friend Laure wrote online after receiving the news.
"She had been on life support for 3 days. Yesterday, her family made the difficult decision to remove it and she passed last night."
Laure continued: "She is embedded in the tapestry that is pop culture and in our hearts always as Wednesday Addams.
"Beautiful, kind, a loving mother, Lisa’s legacy in the world of entertainment is huge. And the legacy for her family and friends — a wealth of humor, affection and love will long play in our memories."
She added: "RIP, Lisa. Damn, girl…you were a ton of fun."
Lisa – who bagged the legendary role as the young Addams trouble-maker at just six years old back in 1964 – had recently returned to the spotlight following the launch of the popular Netflix series Wednesday.
Despite the role now being assumed by TV newbie Jenna Ortega, the show caused many viewers to trace Wednesday back to its first ever stint on TV, where it was Lisa that played the fictional daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams.
Lisa starred as Wednesday in the first live-adaptation of Charles Addams' widely-adored New Yorker cartoons, assuming her role between 1964 – 1966 and fronting a total of 64 episodes.
She later went on to reprise her woeful role as Wednesday in the television Halloween movie of 1977, New Addams Family.
In the years that followed, Christine Ricci, 42 – who appeared in Netflix's later adaptation of the show as a grown-up character – took over from Lisa in the role of Wednesday, starring in the 1991 hit movie The Addams Family.
She later featured in the sequel Addams Family Values.
Lisa – who was married four times – is survived by her two daughters Marianne and Vanessa, as well as her grandchildren, Emiliana and Charles.
Her daughter Vanessa Foumberg confirmed her mother's death to Variety magazine, saying: "She went peacefully with both her daughters holding her hands."
