Ben Shephard, 46, was among those paying tribute to Annie Mac’s career on the BBC as the star stepped down. The Good Morning Britain star dropped an emotional goodbye to the broadcaster on social media.
Annie featured in her last BBC radio show over the weekend as she shared an emotional goodbye to her listeners.
Signing off from her last show, she tearfully revealed her dad had sent her a text which “floored her”.
She said: “I just want to say thank you, thank you for having me, thank you for everything.
“I’m going to keep going and keep hopefully being able to bring you music in other ways and keep writing and whatever comes my way.
“The last 17 years have been the most amazing, magic experience, thank you so much for listening.”
Annie then added: “There’s one more thing I’ve got to say, that as a 43-year-old woman, I just can tell you this, that life goes by really, really fast.
“Life is short, it thunders by, if you like your music, you’ve got to get up and dance, just do it.”
The video of the moment was widely shared on social media with Ben reacting to it as well.
Posting in view of his 777,000 followers, the GMB presenter shared his goodbye.
He wrote in response: “The last few words are so pertinent. What a broadcaster she is.”
Annie’s final show was on Saturday night ending her 17 years on the BBC.
She had announced her exit back in April, as she opened up about wanting to spend more time with her children and work on new projects.
The Irish DJ said on Instagram: “I need more time to see my kids in the evenings now they are both in school.
“I would like more time to write fiction and to create podcasts.”
She added: “I love the idea of leaving the party… when I’m still having the most fun I can have.”
Clara Amfo is taking over her slot on the BBC and will host the Future Sounds show.
Elsewhere, Ben has admitted he’s still “struggling” with his recovery following his leg operation.
Speaking with Christopher Biggins on GMB about his own experiences, the broadcaster opened up.
He said: “Getting that flexibility and bend back in the knee – that’s what I’m struggling with.”
Ben had to have an operation after he ruptured his ACL and tore his meniscus during a football match.
He’s been keeping his fans updated since about his recovery from the injury.
