Why Prince Harry’s Interview With James Corden Is Seen As Disrespectful To The Queen

On February 25, 2021, Prince Harry made an unexpected but very welcome appearance on comedian James Corden’s The Late Late Show. During the interview, Harry joins Corden on a Los Angeles tour bus, and the two drive around while taking in all the Hollywood sights. The interview provided a rare glimpse into Harry’s life; due to his history as a member of the royal family, his personal life has been kept strictly under wraps more often than not. Since he and wife Meghan Markle have stepped back from the royal family and moved to California, however, Harry has become more open about the goings-on of his life. During his interview, he raps the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, casually video chats with Markle, talks about how he has no issue with The Crown, and offers rare but exciting insights into his life away from the royal family.

Of course, not everyone has found the interview to be so exciting. On the same day that Harry’s interview with Corden aired, Queen Elizabeth also released a rare and personal message about the importance of receiving a coronavirus vaccine — and one royal expert has weighed in on how Harry’s interview has overshadowed the queen’s important message.

Prince Harry's interview overshadowed an important message from Queen Elizabeth

On February 25, 2021, Queen Elizabeth virtually joined a panel of health officials to discuss the rollout of the coronavirus vaccine in the UK, per Sky News. She even went as far as detailing her own experience with the vaccine, which she received in January alongside Prince Philip. “It was very quick, and I’ve had lots of letters from people who have been very surprised by how easy it was to get the vaccine,” the queen explained, while adding that the shot “didn’t hurt at all.”

Because Prince Harry’s interview with James Corden dropped on the very same day, some people believe that he has acted in a disrespectful way towards the queen. Speaking with BBC Breakfast (via Daily Mail), royal expert Rob Jobson weighed in on the interview. “Timing is everything isn’t it,” he said. “On the day that the Queen has issued a very, very important message about the whole of the nation getting the jab, that message has sort of been blurred by Harry, the man who wants a private life, talking about his private life again.”

While some critics are upset about Harry’s interview, fans have taken to Twitter to share how much they enjoy the interview. And, as Page Six noted, Corden was in control of when the interview aired — and the comedian may have dropped it to beat Oprah to the punch, who also has an upcoming interview with both Harry and Meghan Markle.
