Jeremy Irvine has been attached to star in the upcoming Green Lantern series set for HBO Max since May 2021.
After his casting was announced, he wrote on Instagram, “Very excited to be joining the DC Universe!! Can’t wait to get started. #GreenLantern”
However, it was just announced that the Greg Berlanti-produced series is going to be redeveloped and the original showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has departed the series, according to THR.

The original concept of the show, which Grahame-Smith already penned the scripts for eight episodes of, was set to revolve around the first Green Lantern, openly gay Alan Scott (Irvine) and Guy Gardner (Finn Wittrock), along with more Lanterns.
Now, with the show being redeveloped, it’s said to center on John Stewart instead, one of DC’s first Black superheroes.
According to THR, producer Greg Berlanti is the only one still attached to the project. The site does note that sources say Berlanti Productions is “eager to work with both actors when and if the project, which currently has a script-to-series commitment, moves forward.”
If you somehow didn’t know, Greg is one of the main executive producers of all of the DC/Arrowverse shows on The CW, as well as many other shows on the network, which is also going through some changes at this time.
