Marvel star Will Poulter has joined forces with Movember to launch its 2022 campaign alongside celebrity tattoo artist Dan Gold.
The 29-year-old actor, who has supported the annual men’s mental health fundraising event before, was snapped getting a temporary tattoo from Dan at the UK’s first ‘Tats & Chats’ parlour as the ‘Mo-mentary mark’ campaign was launched in London.
Showing off both designs on offer – the classic ‘mo’ and a more decorative design featuring a dapper English gentleman sporting a ‘tache – the Bafta-winner is encouraging people to come and get (temporarily) tatted to honour a lost loved one or to celebrate themselves overcoming their own hurdle.
Acknowledging the difficulties lots of men face when talking about their mental health, the star explained: ‘It’s a cause I’ve backed for a long time but sadly I’ve always struggled to grow a decent “mo”. However, this year everyone is able to get involved by sporting their very own “Mo-mentary mark” to remove the stigma that surrounds men’s mental and physical health issues.’
Will was also happy to share his own tips with Metro.co.uk on what helps him cope when he’s struggling with his own mental health.
The actor said: ‘My work can often take me away from my family for long periods of time. So, as soon as filming ends, I love going to visit the parents and focussing on my physical health and wellbeing.’
‘I strongly believe that physical exercise and the natural endorphins that come from working out can have drastic improvements on your mental health,’ he added.
The Dopesick actor, who will play the all-powerful Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 next year, explained that reading was one of his top mental health tools too, as he sang the praises of one of his favourite authors, Matt Haig.
‘I also love to read, in particular Matt Haig’s books on personal development. I’ve had some of the most life-affirming experiences reading them, especially Reasons to Stay Alive – I’ve bought copies for my family.
‘I strongly recommend you give them a go!’
Having openly admitted to his difficulty in growing his own upper-lip embellishment, it also had to be asked who he thinks sports the best on-screen moustache.
He was clear-cut with his answer: ‘Will Ferrell in Anchorman.’
The temporary Tats & Chats tattoo parlour, which opens on Monday in brand-new entertainment district Outernet London, is part of a pop-up self-care and grooming space, open for men to scrub up ahead of Movember, while also providing a space for supporters to talk about their own personal mental and physical health journeys.
Michelle Terry, Movember CEO, added: ‘This year we wanted to do something big to draw attention to the current men’s health crisis. Mo or no mo, our 2022 campaign aims to get people talking to ultimately make a difference.
‘It’s great to see famous faces putting on a united front in support of men’s health, inspiring everyone to get involved and support our fundraising drive this Movember.’
The Movember Tats & Chats tattoo parlour pop-up will be open to the public between 09:00-18:00 on Monday October 31 at Outernet London, Tottenham Court Road. You can book a slot by visiting Eventbrite.
