X Factor star James Arthur becomes dad for first time after baby’s ‘unexpected arrival’

The X Factor star James Arthur has welcomed a baby girl.

The Trainwreck singer, 34, took to Instagram to announce the news of the tot's "unexpected arrival" as he shared a video of his daughter's tiny hand holding onto his finger.

"Dear Emily, Welcome to the world.." he penned alongside the announcement as he appaered to debut an 'Emily' tattoo on his hand.

The sweet video was to his own song Heartbeat, with the lyrics: "You are my blood, you are my heartbeat."

Fellow X Factor star and friend Rylan lead the comments congratulating James on his bundle of joy. He wrote: "This is gonna make you. Love you xxx".

"Wowww congrats James!!!" added Pixie Lott, as Ashley Cain penned: "Congratulations my brother god bless".

"Aww congratulations mate," weighed in former Radio 1 presenter Chris Stark, while another said: "Congratulations James, so pleased for you!!"

Emily's arrival comes after James reportedly rekindled his romance with ex partner Jessica Grist at the start of the year, just six months after they called it quits.

While they were thought to be dating again, it's unclear who the mum of James' child is.

Before they got back together, the singer heartbreakingly revealed last year that Jessica had an ectopic pregnancy with their child.

An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilised egg implants itself outside of the womb, usually in one of the fallopian tubes.

Speaking on The Andy Jaye Podcast, he explained: “To be honest, when it first came out I sort of billed it as that, but I spoke to my partner, and at the time it was a realistic prospect. She was pregnant.

“Sadly it didn’t work out. It wasn’t far, it was a couple of months and she had an ectopic pregnancy. So she lost the child, and I didn’t really want to talk about it.

“But she actually said ‘I think it’s really important that you do’ – just because there’s so little information, and I would echo that actually.”

While Jessica was pregnant, James penned the song 'Emily' that he wrote in anticipation for the baby's birth, but sadly the pregnancy "didn't work out".

Despite their heartbreak, James was encouraged by his record label to release the heartfelt song.

“The record label were like ‘we think you should release this song’,” James explained at the time.

“I guess to say, this is a song to my future child, which I still would call my child Emily. So it made sense to put it out like that.”

Sticking to his word, James has named his newborn daughter the same name as the track.
