Janet Devlin has revealed she's nearly died more than once as she was "constantly drunk" following her time on The X Factor.
The 27 year old joined the programme in 2011 at the young age of 16 and recently spoke out about what life was like at the height of her addiction in a Facebook Live with the Daily Star.
"I wasn't able to turn up for work. I was constantly drunk. I was almost dying a lot either through taking my own life or I could have accidentally died like a million times," she explained.
Janet, who recently dyed her hair bleach blonde, continued: "It was just really bad I was literally going missing for days. I wasn't able to do any work and I wasn't a functioning human at all, so something had to give."
The singer, who has her own BBC documentary Janet Devlin: Young, Female and Addiction, is now six years into her recovery and believes it's important to tell her story as "when I got sober there weren't a lot of young women talking about it because it's hard to find people with long sobriety who are young."
She added: "I used to have to look up to Russel Brand, who I love, but he was a 40 year old man."
Janet explained that many people believe being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age was the root cause of her addiction, but she insisted that she was displaying "bad drinking habits" before appearing on The X Factor.
"So I wasn't in a good place before the show and it took for me to get the money and really drink myself quickly into the place that I was," she shared.
The star went on to share that the majority of her earnings from the programme went into her music.
However, she lost most of it "due to a fraudulent record deal" and added that she "drank the rest".

It comes after the star recently shared a gushing post to her mum for Mother's Day as she posted a snap of them together before penning: "Happy Mother’s Day to this earth angel [red heart emoji] words can’t fully express the love and gratitude I have for her.
"Thanks so much for your patience, kindness and unwavering love!

"My mum spoke very openly in the documentary about how hard it was to be a mother during the years of my self destruction. But she’s always been by my side through everything.
"For what she put up with, she deserves to be a saint. Thank you so much for everything mum, you deserve the world," followed by a red heart emoji.
