Little Britain comic Matt Lucas has taken to social media, sharing his thoughts on the moment that saw Will Smith slap Chris Rock at The Oscars.

The Men In Black actor stormed the stage after he made a joke comparing Jada Pinkett Smith's hair to G.I. Jane, a role that Demi Moore famously shaved her head for.

However, Jada has previously revealed she suffers from alopecia and the joke didn't go down too well with her husband who instantly lashed out, in front of the glaring eyes of the world.

In a now-deleted tweet, Matt who also suffers from alopecia has said he can "sometimes get it wrong".

The actor said: "I have alopecia AND I'm a comedian who sometimes gets it wrong.

"I have no idea what I'm supposed to think about last night."

Hours before, Matt posted: "Anyone else need therapy after watching The Oscars? I'm not even joking."

His post, however, didn't go down too well with social media users who were quick to point out that Matt and his co-star David Walliams have previously apologised for using blackface in their sketch shows.

Chris claimed that Jada could star in a sequel of the famous movie having shaved her head but within a split second, Will reacted.

Moments after returning to his seat after striking Rock, he yelled: "Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth!"

Despite the incident, Chris said that it "was the greatest night in history" having joked: "Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me."

The star has since apologised for his actions during an emotional acceptance speech after winning Best Actor for his role in King Richard.

Issuing a formal apology to The Academy, he said: "I want to apologise to the academy and I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees.

"Love will make you do crazy things."

He has since taken to social media, issuing another apology during which, he said violence is "poisonous and destructive".

In view of his 61.7 million Instagram followers, he said: "My behaviour at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.

"Jokes at my expense are a part of the job but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness."

The actor signed off, adding that he was a "work in progress".
