‘Alien creature from the deep’ surprises residents after washing up on beach

A freaky "alien creature from the deep" has left locals stunned after the strange being washed up on a beach in Australia.

Sydney resident Drew found the beast from the deep on Bondi Beach while taking a morning walk with a pal.

The local has lived in the area for two decades and has never come across a creature quite like this one.

He said: "I've been living in Bondi for the past 20 years and I've never seen any creature that looks remotely like this. It had these weird lips that looked like it had been to a cosmetic surgeon and had way too much filler put in, and also it had these weird teeth.

"I thought 'is it a shark? Is it a stingray?'"

The stunned local continued: "We had no idea what it was. It just seemed to me like an alien creature from the deep."

Drew's discovery comes just one month after a patch of severe weather hit Sydney, and he believes it is no coincidence.

He said: "Sydney has just recorded the wettest March on record so it's just been torrential rain every single day.

"And so last Saturday we had what they call a king tide in Sydney and the water was literally coming right up to the road of Bondi beach.

"There was this massive — almost football field length — pile of seaweed that washed up on the beach."

Drew added: "My belief is that the creature just got caught up in all the seaweed, it drowned naturally and it just washed up on the shore."

He shared photos of the beast on a local webpage, and received dozens of comments from puzzled neighbours and residents of Bondi.

Some said it looked like a mermaid, a fleshlight or the notorious bear of Aussie urban legend, carnivorous version of the cute koala bear.

Other suggestions were more serious, with a few locals saying it could be a decaying numbfish, coffin ray or cuttlefish.

Drew said: "I thought it was some form of a baby shark — an unusual one that we never would see in Sydney before normally. Every single person on the Bondi local group suggested it was one thing or another.

"I've never seen anything like it washed up on Bondi Beach. I've seen blue-ringed octopuses, I've seen a massive dead shark washed up one day, I've seen sea snakes, a dead penguin.

"I've seen lots of different things but I've never seen this kind of creature."

If the beast from the deep ocean is a coffin fish, then it's right at home in Australian waters where it buries itself in the sand and sends off powerful electric 200v shocks to ward off predators.
