Think twice before updating your Apple Watch! Users say the latest update has given their screen a ‘horrible’ GREEN tint
- The watchOS 9.5 update was released last week and includes bug fixes
- But some users who installed it say a bug is giving their screen a green tint
They’re some of the most popular wearables around the world, but if you have an Apple Watch, think twice before installing the latest update.
The watchOS 9.5 update was released last week and includes important bug fixes, as well as several new features such as a Pride Celebration watch face.
However, some users who have installed it are complaining about a bug that’s giving their screen a ‘horrible’ green tint.
‘Yep, I thought it was my green watch face. Good quality control… not,’ one user tweeted.
Another added: ‘I thought they changed the look of it, or I was the only one.’

The issue is predominantly affecting Apple Watch Series 8 and older devices, with earlier models faring worse, according to Mac Rumors, who first reported the issue.
Those affected say the green tint appears on three occassions – on the passcode input screen, when pulling down notifications, and when accessing the Control Centre.
One user posted a photo of their Apple Watch on Reddit, writing: ‘Green tint in notification + control center after 9.5 update.’
Several other users replied, confirming that their Apple Watches had also been affected.
‘Yeah I have this, Series 8 45mm,’ one wrote, while another added: ‘Noticed this and thought it was Mandela effect but I guess not.’
Apple is yet to comment on the issue, although MailOnline has contacted them for comment.
This isn’t the first time an Apple device has been plagued with strange colour tint issues.
In 2020, iPhone 11 users reported a green tint on their screens following the iOS 13.5.2 update
In 2020, iPhone 11 users reported a green tint on their screens following the iOS 13.5.2 update.
Apple confirmed that the issue was caused by a software bug, and resolved it with the launch of a follow-up update.
It remains unclear whether Apple will be able to similarly address the Apple Watch issue in a future watchOS update.
However, watchOS 9.6 is currently undergoing testing, so hopefully it won’t be long until the green tint issue is resolved.
