Baked beans fanatic changes name to ‘Captain Beany’ and turns home into shrine

A man whose real name is now Captain Beany spent £10,000 turning his home into a shrine to baked beans.

The 67-year-old, known as Barry Kirk until he changed his name by deed poll in 1991, has painted his walls orange, stuck Heinz Beanz labels onto almost every surface and even created a beans-themed Christmas tree.

He also recently showcased his beans-themed coffin on Instagram, complete with a Heinz label that reads "RIP Captain Beany".

Unsurprisingly, the Captain's antics have seen him become a local celebrity in his town of Port Talbot, south Wales.

However, more surprisingly, he claims he only eats baked beans around four times a week.

Speaking to LADbible Captain Beany revealed that he took on the new identity to raise money for charity and "generate re-sauces".

He recently competed in the London Marathon raising money for Young Lives Vs Cancer, and supported the charity once more one week later at the Swansea Half Marathon.

Captain Beany said that he loved performing and dressing up as a schoolchild and that he now feels "empowered".

He added that his goal is to make "families happy and so 'full of beans'".

The beans coffin he recently showed to his followers forms part of wider plans he has for himself when he passes his "sell-by date".

Describing it as a "space capsule", the Captain detailed how he wants to be launched into outer space by a billionaire so that aliens can take him to "Planet Beanus".

At the moment Captain Beany is a single man, but he hopes to find his "Tina Beans" before being launched into space.

He has even applied to appear on Married At First Sight, a Channel 4 show were strangers marry having only met at the alter.

"I've previously had some loving, long-lasting relationships but never bean and done it when it comes to walking down the church aisle," he added.
