Best April Fools pranks as Brits try to trick each other with ridiculous stories

Brits all across the UK have become April Fools after falling for some of the most iconic pranks in the media this morning.

Working out what is and what isn't a joke is becoming more and more difficult so you may have your work cut out.

April Fools' Day jokes last year included claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's secret marriage ceremony before their royal wedding was conducted by a clergyman dressed as Elvis.

But this year, whether it be for a new landmark or a bizarre Onlyfans account – there have been some crazy ones hitting the headlines today.

Now, the Daily Star has scoured the internet for our favourites that have left those who fell for them red-faced.

Prince of Wales Bridge

The Second Severn Crossing is to be renamed the Gareth Bale Bridge, Wales Online reports.

The bridge, which was renamed after the Prince of Wales in 2018, is to undergo a further name change in recognition of the footballer's contribution to Welsh sport.

Bale further cemented his legend as he almost single-handedly took his team to a play-off for a place at the World Cup with two stunning goals against Austria last week.

The Real Madrid star was the subject of extraordinary attacks from the Spanish media and was even dubbed a "parasite" in the run-up to the crucial semi-final.

However, he shook off this criticism to take Wales just one step from the Qatar World Cup and let it be known who he thought the real 'parasite' was.

Hadrian's Wall mud

  • Woman's Tinder date broke into home and filled her shoes with spaghetti after break-up

Mud from the Marble Arch mound will be used to rebuild Hadrian's Wall as part of Tory 'levelling up' plans, the Mirror reported.

Tourism experts say the Twitter storm that greeted the west London rubbish heap will soon be replicated up north.

"As we all know, Twitter mentions equals eyeballs and by that metric, the Marble Arch mound has been a huge success", one said.

Londoners were distraught when the £6million mound started to be demolished earlier this year after it was such a storming success.

OnlyNaans

  • Nurses who quit careers to make OnlyFans fortunes – including secret NHS worker

A Bristol-based Indian restaurant pranked its customers on Twitter with the launch of a bizarre OnlyFans account.

According to the 'promotional video' Urban Tandoor launched an OnlyNaans account – which left social media users in hysterics.

Kav tweeted: "There’s an Indian restaurant in bristol @stepheniscowboy introduced me to. I’ve never been to it but has the most incredible social media footprint and today they’ve launched an OnlyNaans account @Urbantandoor."

The video showed a man lying on a bed with a naan bread style blanket as he throws the pieces of bread in the air.

Angel of the South

  • Model tells boyfriend she wants to be swinger for April Fools – but it ends in disaster

Plans are underway for a giant white horse statue to be built at the site of the now-withdrawn plans for a London Resort theme park.

The site, located on the Swanscombe Peninsula, was set to open in 2025.

Artist's drawings of the site showed the theme park lit up at night, with beams pointing up towards the sky along with a medieval-themed castle and lava waterfalls.

However, the plans were withdrawn this week and speculation has been rife about what will replace them.

Now, KentLive can reveal that there are new plans to build the "Angel of the South" in its place.

Former Minister becomes PR spin doctor

  • April Fools pranks that ended in disaster from 'alien invasion' to Playboy wife-beating

Former Tory minister Rory Stewart says he has been 'hired' as the PM's spin doctor.

Mr Stewart, who once ran for the Conservative Party leadership, said he was looking forward to working with Boris Johnson.

He tweeted: "It is an honour to have been asked by the PM to serve as Director of Communications for No10 Downing Street.

"I am looking forward to working with the PM, Ministers and Members of Parliament on the issues that matter most to our country."

Walker's 'crisp loaf'

  • April Fools Day pranks that ended in horrible deaths – from stabbing to state executions

The 'nation's favourite crisp' brand pranked customers with the 'launch' of a ridiculous product that may have resulted in high demand for it.

Walkers posted an image of a bizarre 'crisp loaf' to Twitter, writing: "The best thing since sliced bread #CrispIn."

However, some customers love the idea and demanded it becomes a reality.

One user said: "Why does April Fools bring out the greatest of ideas."

Another added: "Actually gutted this is an April fools."
