Bible prophecy: Israel faces invasion by Iran in End Times, Christian conspiracists claim

Pastor Paul Begley addresses ‘end of the world’ claims

The Bible’s many chapters outline a prophetic timeline of events that will lead to the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. From the Rapture and Tribulation to the final war between good and evil, Armageddon, Christians worldwide await the day of the Messiah’s return. In Matthew 24, Jesus told his disciples of wars and rumours of war, natural cataclysms and Christian persecution that will precede His Second Coming.

The Bible also speaks of the Holy Land being targetted by Israel’s enemies.

According to the Christian conspiracy blog Bible Prophecy – Signposts of the Times, the Old Testament’s Book of Ezekiel describes a future war known as the Gog/Magog conflict.

Ezekiel 38:4-6 reads: “I will turn around, put hooks in your jaws and bring you out with your whole army – your horses, your horsemen fully armed, and a great horde with large and small shields, all of them brandishing their swords.

“Persia, Cush and Put will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.”

Persia in this context has been interpreted as the modern-day nation of Iran.

The mighty Persian empire, also called the Achaemenid Empire, once stretched across the Middle East, parts of North Africa and venture as far as southeast Europe and India.

Founded in 550 BC by Cyrus the Great, the Iranian empire declined about 200 years later.

But what about Beth Togarmah and Gomer? According to Signposts of the Times, these may be a reference to modern-day Turkey.

The blog’s author said: “Cush and Put are the present-day regions of Libya and Sudan/Ethiopia.

“God himself will execute judgement on these invading armies and destroy them on the mountains of Israel.”

According to Ezekiel 38, God will pour torrents of rain, hailstone and sulphur upon the invading forces.

The scripture reads: “I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Sovereign Lord. Every man’s sword will be against his brother.”

Another prophecy from the Book of Isaiah speaks of Syria being destroyed in the End Times.

Isaiah 17 speaks of Syria’s capital, Damascus, becoming a “heap of ruins”.

Prophecies of war are also mentioned throughout the Bible’s Book of Revelation, the Bible’New Testament’s final book.

Signposts of the Times said: “From wars initiated by the Antichrist to conquer regions, to the final war to end all wars, the Battle of Armageddon, which is really no war at all.

“The armies of the world gather to make war against the returning Jesus Christ but are wiped out by our Lord and Savior who simply calls for their end.”

The blog added: “Just another reason to consider where you stand in your relationship with Jesus Christ.

“Now is the day of salvation while there is still time.”

Some Christians, however, reject such attempts to predict or date the return of Christ, based on modern-day events.

According to Stephen Witmer, pastor of the Pepperell Christian Fellowship in Pepperell, Massachusetts, Christian faith rests upon the certainty of Jesus’s return.

He said: “When our waiting for Jesus is founded on God’s promise, we draw our confidence from the dependability of the one who has made the promise.”
