A man who thought he had stumbled upon almost £6 million inside a £390 auction bought storage unit was forced to eventually give it up in heart-breaking circumstances.
According to Storage Wars host Dan Dotson, one of his former clients made a staggering find back in 2018 after purchasing an innocuous lot in America.
Posting a clip to social media, he explained how the man thought he had become a millionaire overnight.
He said: “A woman walked up and told me her husband works with a guy who bought a unit from me for $500 and found a safe inside.
"And the first person they called to open it I guess couldn't or didn't.
“They called a second person and when that person opened it up – inside the safe they're normally empty, but this time it wasn't empty.
“It had $7.5million (£5.8m) cash inside."
But as with most things in life, there was a sting in the tail as the owner of the safe soon realised their mistake and sent the legal boys around.
Speaking to The Blast, Dan explained that the lawyers had first offered the man a £465,000 reward in return for the money, which was naturally turned down.
But as there was a phenomenal amount of money on the line, the lawyers didn't stop there.
On the second attempt, the man was offered £930,000 and decided to cut his losses, perhaps fearing a more arduous and protracted legal case.

Dan said: “$7.5million inside of a unit, I don't think you'd forget it but maybe you were just in a position where somebody else was in charge of it, I don't know.”
Still, for his investment, a £930,000 payoff isn’t something many of us would pass up!
