International engineering and digital services group Assystem has released plans to make 450 new UK hires to work on green projects. The company is committed to the energy transition by promoting the development of carbon-free electricity. It has launched an ambitious recruitment campaign to meet the growing needs of its customers in energy, rail transport and infrastructure.

Many of the roles will support the UK’s new nuclear projects like Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C and Rolls-Royce’s Small Modular Reactor programme.

Simon Barber Assystem’s UK Managing Director said, “It is an exciting time for Assystem in the UK.

“Iur business is fully aligned to achieving the UK’s decarbonisation plan to meet its net zero commitments, so we must have a strong team to deliver these new infrastructure projects.

“Today the UK is in a new era of building energy technology, delivering new electrified transport infrastructure, and is delivering major nuclear new build and nuclear decommissioning programmes.

“Companies such as Assystem are vital in supplying the expertise and leadership to deliver these projects.

“Our growth in the UK is matched by our commitment to investing in the training and development of our employees and to building the diverse workforces of the future.”

Their plan will support various sectors.

For rail, Assystem is seeking planning and consents consultants, project and programme managers, cost auditors, ecologists, environmental consultants, quantity surveyors and town planners.

In digital, Assystem is looking to recruit data engineers, project integration specialists and system architects.

Some will also receive specialist training at the Assystem Nuclear Institute, while new colleagues in rail and digital activities will benefit from a similar professional development offer from the Assystem Rail Institute and the Assystem Digital Institute.

A key initiative of this programme is the investment of £5million in a new UK graduate scheme to attract 100 women to nuclear roles by 2025-6.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled his “Ten Point Plan” for a “Green Industrial Revolution” to create and support up to 250,000 British jobs.

Covering clean energy, transport, nature and innovative technologies, the Prime Minister’s blueprint will allow the UK to forge ahead with eradicating its contribution to climate change by 2050.

Europe is also looking to reduce its reliance on Russian energy by promoting more green alternatives.

It comes as Moscow has been toying with energy exports amid tensions on the Ukraine border.

Russia is western Europe’s largest single supplier of gas, a commodity that is in tight supply globally and has reached record market price highs in recent weeks, threatening to tip the UK into a national energy crisis.
