Chicken’s ‘one-in-a-billion’ perfectly spherical egg could be worth hundreds

A chicken has given a family a "one-in-a-billion" surprise with a perfectly spherical egg that could be worth hundreds of pounds.

Annabel Mulcahy, from Oxfordshire, was stunned to see that one of her chickens had delivered a perfectly round egg at her home in Brize Norton over the weekend.

Annabel has kept chickens for the past two decades, with her family rescuing more and more in recent years as her children took an interest in the feathered friends.

But after 20 years of tending to the farmyard creatures, a chicken named Twinskie has laid a completely spherical egg, much to the amazement and surprise of the family.

Twinskie, named by one of Annabel's daughters, laid the well-priced egg which was "a perfect circle" according to Annabel.

She said: "On Saturday morning (August 6), I opened the nesting box and it was there, a perfect circle. I was Googling it and was quoted that it’s a one in a billion.

"It’s really weird, I had to a double take. I can roll it on the table like a marble."

The marble-like egg is now up for sale, with Annabel hoping to use the sale of the egg as a way to fund the rescuing of more chickens, OxfordMail reported.

Annabel added: "I’ve put the egg for sale on eBay, some have gone for prices like £480 in the past. What I get will go towards getting an extra run so I can rescue more chickens.

"I’ve got nine at the moment, but three are being rehomed at a farm. I want to raise £100 for an extension to the run. I’ve had chickens on and off for the last 20 years, but it’s steadily increased over the last three years.

"They’re so friendly. If I’m in the garden, they’ll come and sunbathe at your feet. Twinskie has the nickname Labrador because she’ll follow you round."

For those hoping to purchase the spherical egg, bidding starts at £9.99.
