‘Christmas ruined’ by rotting Lidl turkey that ‘looks like scene from Alien’

A woman's rotten Lidl Christmas turkey has been likened to a scene from classic horror movie Alien – a situation that has left her without a festive meal centrepiece.

Christmas Eve is normally the day many people open their birds to prepare for the Christmas feast.

And it can be the day many unwanted surprises are found – and today (December 24) is no different, as one horrified Lidl shopper found out.

Sophie Whike took to social media to post a picture of a turkey she bought at the budget supermarket chain.

Although she didn't state which branch she got it from, she claimed that she had defrosted it and it “smells of rotten meat”.

The picture appears to show a very odd blue and black colour coming from underneath the bird's skin, too.

She wrote: “Literally what the hell is this. Just defrosted my Turkey from @LidlGB.

“Christmas ruined. It’s Xmas eve – this is actually a joke.

“Not only is there no meat, the house smells of rotten meat – not acceptable.”

She ended her angry tweet with the hashtags #christmasruined #lidl #turkeyoffonxmaseve.

The Daily Star has reached out to Lidl for comment on the mouldy bird.

However, Twitter users poured salt into the woman's wounds with their comments on it.

Many posted a GIF of the classic scence from the Alien film where a baby alien bursts through the chest of Sigourney Weaver, while one person said it looked like another famous alien – ET.

One person tweeted: “It is rotting meat.”

While another wrote: “Shouldn’t have to say this but don’t buy meat for a special occasion from Aldi or Lidl.”

Many on the social media site took the chance to tell the woman that she could go “vegan” instead and have a “meat free Christmas”.

However, she didn't – as she later posted that she bought a replacement from Sainsbury's instead.
