Do you believe in aliens? Let us know what you think

The existence of aliens is a question that has long perplexed us. From depictions of UFOs in ancient cave paintings to the Roswell incident in 1947, our obsession with extra-terrestrials pre-dates history.

In the vastness of the universe, only a tiny fraction of which we have discovered, it might be difficult to believe we are entirely alone among trillions of planets, moons and stars.

The late theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, known to be one of the greatest geniuses of our time, warned us to be careful what we wished for in our quest to make contact with aliens.

He said: “Meeting an advanced civilization could be like Native Americans encountering Columbus. That didn’t turn out so well.”

But some sceptics argue that the reason why we haven’t found aliens yet is simply because they don’t exist, and even if they did, they might not be the intelligent beings we imagine them to be.

If they do exist, they might be tiny, microscopic organisms floating around in alien oceans somewhere under the surface of a moon billions of light years away.

Then again, there are also several fringe conspiracy theorists who believe everything about space is one big hoax and nothing exists beyond our planet and its immediate atmosphere.

Others, on the other hand, argue thataliens already exist among uson Earth, but are simply in hiding, or in disguise.

Astronomer Jacques Vallée, who co-developed the first computerised map of Mars for NASA in 1963, is one of many experts touting the interdimensional hypothesis, which suggests that aliens may exist in other "realities" or "dimensions" parallel to our own.

Another theory is that aliens once existed, but went extinct either due to factors like climate change.

Or is all this speculation simply our imagination running wild, perhaps as a naïve way of making sense of strange phenomena that we just haven’t found the scientific explanation to?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on whether or not aliens exist. If you’d like to share your opinion, drop it in the comments and we’ll highlight the best ones when they come in.
