Elon Musk could bring back the six-second video sharing platform Vine

Will Elon Musk revive Vine? Chief Twit asks users if he should bring back the six-second-long video platform bought by Twitter in 2013 that created stars like YouTuber Logan Paul and musician Shawn Mendez

  • Elon Musk is conducted a poll on Twitter that asks users if they would want to see Vine come back
  • Vine, which launched in 2012, let users share up to six-second-long videos
  • Twitter bought Vine shortly after it launched, but killed it in 2017
  • Vine is known for creating numerous stars, including YouTuber Logan Paul and musician Shawn Mendez

Elon Musk, who is the new owner of Twitter, is conducting a poll on the platform to see if users are interested in seeing Vine come back from the dead – a platform know for creating stars like Logan Paul and Shawn Mendez.

Vine, which let users share six-second-long videos, was an overnight sensation in 2012 and bought out by Twitter just five months after its release, but the social media platform killed it five years later due to increasing competition in the market.

A user suggested that reviving Vine could make it a TikTok competitor and ‘that’d be hilarious,’ in which the Chief Twit replied: ‘What could we do to make it better than TikTok?’

The poll has more than three million votes, with more than 69 percent of the votes stating ‘yes,’ but it is not clear if Musk has real plans to bring it back or is just making playful conversation on Twitter.

Musk officially closed his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter last Thursday after months of battling with the social media site executives over concerns most of the accounts are actually spam bots.

He has since cleaned house, firing executives like CEO Parag Agrawal, and is expected to fire ‘25 percent of staff.’

While much of the news has been focused on such events, Musk is hoping to steer it toward Twitter’s evolution as a platform and is hoping to get input from those who use the platform.

A lot of the public does not like TikTok and is looking for the China-owned platform to finally disappear.

While many users are thrilled over the idea of reviving Vine, others feel it should remain where it is – dead

Twitter user, Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, suggested Vine should not be a separate app, but instead live within Twitter.

Musk replied with the ‘100 percent’ emoji as a response.

While many users are thrilled over the idea of reviving Vine, others feel it should remain where it is – dead.

Twitter user, zo., shared: ‘We only love vine so much because of nostalgia.. like let’s leave it in the past and just enjoy what we got rn. we can love vine from afar i fear!!’

However, a lot of the public does not like TikTok and is looking for the China-owned platform to finally disappear.

Quinn Nelson shared on Twitter: ‘Bringing back Vine is the first good Musk Twitter idea and it’s a mighty good one. I want TikTok to die.’

Vine was the first of its kind, allowing people to create short videos to share with the world.

The app also gave rise to several famous individuals including Shawn Mendez who is a world-renowned musician and Andrew ‘King Bach’ Bachelor who was one of the most-followed creators on Vine and is now an actor on ‘The Mindy Project.’

Then there is Logan Paul who started creating comedy clips for Vine and then moved to YouTube when the app was shut down.

He, however, became a controversial figure when he filed the dead body of a man who killed himself in Japan’s famous ‘suicide forest.’

Paul is now a professional wrestler who is signed with WWE and has more than 23 million YouTube subscribers.

Mendez is known for several hit songs, including ‘Stitches’ and ‘Señorita.’
