Today (August 17) Elon Musk took to Twitter to declare that he's "buying Manchester United ".
With the Red Devils sitting bottom of the Premier League table after two games, and anger towards the owning Glazer family boiling over, their fans would no doubt have been excited at the prospect of the world's richest man, 51, taking the helm.
However, the Tesla CEO broke their hearts just a few hours later.

When asked if he was serious, Musk replied: "No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I’m not buying any sports teams.
"Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. They were my fav team as a kid. (sic)"
It was just the latest out-there Twitter debacle from Musk, who has become known for his outlandish claims on the social media site.
During the early days of his attempt to buy Twitter, which now isn't going ahead, Musk posted: "Next I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in."
After coming clean about the Manchester United joke today he also updated fans about this, writing: "And I’m not buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in, despite the extreme popularity of such a move."
Yet Musk's bizarre Twitter antics go far beyond joking about using his enormous wealth to make popular, big money purchases.
He himself even said in 2019 that his account is "pretty much complete nonsense", which may in part explain how he's managed to amass over 103.4million followers.
One thing his followers have come to expect is dad joke-esque memes.
Earlier this month he sent fans wild with a raunchy post asking them if they had "seen my sex tape". Below it he shared an image of two rolls of tape positioned to look like a 69.
Musk has also weaponised memes, in one example mocking Twitter when he first pulled out of the multibillion dollar deal to buy it over a row about bot accounts.
He shared four pictures of his face, each laughing more hysterically than the last and paired with four captions – "They said I couldn't buy Twitter"; "Then they wouldn't disclosure bot info"; "Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court"; "Now they have to disclose bot info in court".
"Who controls the memes, controls the universe," Musk tweeted in February this year, perhaps explaining why he posts so many.
Calling for humanity to "Nuke Mars!", as well as declaring "the colour orange is named after the fruit" and that he is an "alien" are among his other nonsensical posts.
Musk is also no stranger to oversharing on Twitter, in one bizarre exchange telling the world "i cum in peas".

In another instance, from July this year, the SpaceX CEO used the platform to address rumours that he'd had an affair with Nicole Shanahan, the wife of Google founder Sergey Brin, after it was alleged their liaison led to the collapse of her marriage with Brin.
His first response was relatively normal. He said: “This is total bs. Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night! I've only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic.”
However, then he shared: “Haven't even had sex in ages (sigh).”
