A former US police officer turned UFO researcher has revealed the sighting that made him believe that humans are not alone in the universe.

Tim McMillan retired from his roles as a police lieutenant and investigator over a decade ago before relocating to Germany and began independently investigating unidentified aerial phenomena.

His work has seen him become one of the most sought-after UFO experts from around the world – but just what got him interested in aliens anyway?

According to an interview published by Trail of the Saucers, it all started one fateful night in December 2011 in Rincon, Georgia.

Tim was on his way home from a friend's house when he caught glimpse of some mysterious orbs in the pitch-black sky.

He said: "Three very bright, perfectly circular lights suddenly appeared in the sky above us.

"The lights just appeared as if someone flipped on a switch and were about the size of a pea at arm’s length — much larger than a star or navigation lights of an aircraft.

"They had a sort of antique yellow hue to them and were all in a perfectly straight line as if attached to each other or something else unseen.

“It was as if someone flipped a light switch and they didn’t just fade or dim away."

But it didn't stop there as claims more lights appeared, allowing him to make out a rectangular object in the sky.

He added: "This time there were two more lights, making a total of five bright bold whitish amber lights. All five lights were in a perfectly straight line, with the first three lights evenly spaced about a degree apart from each other.

"The two new lights were spaced about a degree apart from each other. Once all five lights were visible, a massive rectangular shape behind the lights seemed to block out the ambient city lights on the horizon.”

But he claims they disappeared so quick he couldn't record, but his friend, a sergeant with the Chatham County Police Department saw them too.

So, from that moment on the cop has devoted his life to UFO research but still has no answers for what he saw.

However the UFO enthusiast insists he is 'excited' to see where military studies and his own research leads.

He said: "Where we’ll be a year, two years, or five years down the road when it comes to knowing more about UFOs, remains a mystery.

"For me, I’m very encouraged in how much the subject continues to evolve into a credible topic for legitimate discussion. I’m excited to see where it all goes.”
