The creators of sci-fi role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 welcomed user modifications that customised the game’s characters and scenery.
But they draw the line at gamers having sex with Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves on their Playstations thanks to a hack.
The game has a distinctly adult theme, with cyborg sex workers walking the streets of its fictional megacity.
But some gamers have set their sights on Johnny Silverhand – the cool hacker who looks and sounds an awful lot like the star of John Wick – and modified his character model so their player can have sex with him.
Developers CD Projekt Red have issued a warning that while customisation is still allowed, game characters that are based on real people are off-limits.
They issued a new advisory against over-enthusiastic customisation: “Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, game mods in particular, is that it can’t be harmful towards others.
“In the case of model swaps, especially those that involve explicit situations, it can be perceived as such by the people who lent us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters in Cyberpunk 2077.
“Therefore, when making fan content, creators have to make sure they’ve got permission from all the concerned parties (which might be people other than CD PROJEKT RED). For the characters we’ve invented for the game, we broadly permit you to tweak the game at will and just have fun."
But, says the statement, there are some limits: “When it comes to models of real people whom we’ve asked to participate in the game, we kindly ask you to refrain from using them in any situation that might be found offensive if you don’t have their explicit permission.”
The person behind the Johnny Silverhand sex mod, Catmino, told Eurogamer that they have deleted the tools that enabled players to have sex with Keanu Reeves.
