A three-year-old girl shocked her family by waking up at her own funeral after doctors wrongly claimed she had died — but she died for real just a few hours later.

The family of Camila Paralta were told she had died at hospital on August 17 after suffering dehydration. The youngster had been taken to San Luis Potosi in Mexico with a fever and vomiting and had been given IV fluids before tragically being pronounced dead at around 9pm.

Mum Mary Paralta told El Universal she had been ordered out of the room and told to let her daughter "rest in peace".

But during Camila's funeral the following day, the heartbroken mum claims she saw her daughter breathing inside the coffin which had a glass panel. Relatives then discovered she was in fact alive.

The little girl was rushed to the hospital where she was tragically declared dead for a second time.

Speaking to El Universal, Mary said: "We are all heartbroken because my little girl was so happy.

"She used to tell me 'Mum, I want to go to school'. She already wanted to start pre-K."

The General State Attorney, Jose Luis Ruiz, said the case is being investigated and an autopsy of the toddler is underway.

In May, a woman who was pronounced dead dramatically interrupted her own funeral service by banging on the inside of her coffin.

Rosa Isabel Cespedes Callaca of Lambayque, Peru had been pronounced dead after being involved in a catastrophic crash which also took the life of her brother-in-law.

Her relatives, who had hoisted the structure onto their shoulders, immediately lowered it and opened the lid to find her alive and peering at them.

Her family are calling on healthcare bosses for answers to find out why she was declared dead "in the first place".
